LSU proves mettle this weekend at UGA

I thought we were somewhat overrated headng into this season based on last year's incredible streak. I left today's UGA game a believer this could be one of our best teams- and definately should be in Omaha. Here's why:
1. Deep, effective pitching staff. Hard to believe there is a better staff than Ranaudo, Ross, Coleman, and Matty Ott as the closer. Just need to continue to improve our middle relief beyond Bertuccini. Ryan Byrd had some quality innigs this series. 35 strikeouts for the staff this weekend.
2. Strength of line up from 1 to 9. While our stars are somewhat struggling, newcomers like Mahtook and Hanover are producing. What does this offense look like when the top of the order gets it rolling?
3. Defense. 0 errors in this weekend's series, on the road, facing the #1 team. UGA had 7.
4. It ain't just about the long ball. Last run was helped with the hit and run after the Gibbs walk.
5. Micah Gibbs arm against small ball- dude is one of the best defensive catchers we have had behind the plate. His throw out in the first was huge- could have led to a bigger inning for UGA.
It is a long way to June and injuries could hurt, but I'm feeling pretty good for the first week of April. As Skip used to do- I hope they keep giving others opportunities to raise their games- especially in midweek action against quality opponents.
