The Saints are expected to soon release DT Hollis Thomas.

The team will save $1.4 million against the salary cap, which they need for rookie signings.

Another one? That's two D tackles in two days.

Interesting. That leaves us with:

S. Ellis,
D. Pressley,
K. Clancy, and
R. Coleman

I guess since McCray outplayed our DE's last year they might make him a starter and give Spicer a big roll and let the guy with the big roll (C. Grant) play some DT.

With such a D heavy draft I think it's safe to say that GW is getting what he wants. He obviously hadn't planned on Thomas contributing much or they'd have simply restructured. I can't imagine a guy like Thomas near the end of his career on a Superbowl caliber team not taking a paycut to stick around.

Seriously though, how much has Hollis and Young really played the last two seasons. Now we have Ellis, Clancy, Coleman, Pressly, and Reed. Im pretty sure we will be able to pick up a couple of backups pretty soon. I love Hollis and Young but let's be honest they are pretty much done.

Ellis and Clancy are gonna be a force at DT. Pressely is a talent for sure so lets hope he lives up to the potential, and if Roderick Coleman is still the player he used to be then I think we will be fine at DT this season

Don't forget Remi Ayodele.

ETA: And Spicer has been known to slide in and play DT.

GW is getting this squad younger and more athletic. He is also sending the message that if you dont preform or try, you are gonna be fired.

With Spicer in the mix, expect to see Grant a little more at DT, I would imagine.

Hollis is still a good player in the rotation. Brian Young was not.

Do not expect to see Grant in at DT unless it is a certain package i would expect to see Spicer at DT more than Grant (i only expect Spicer at DE if Grant and Smith are suspended and to spell Grant on game days)

With all the DT cuts, I wonder where that rumor stands on Dorsey?

Just that... rumors. These cuts are not surprising and they've already brought in vets along with Pressley coming back.

I heard the Dorsey rumor also. K.C. has fricked that pick all up.

we couldn't afford him, but Dorsey along side Ellis would be lights out I'd imagine.

Clancy is not really starter material, but I think you see now my Peria Jerry argument from yesterday becoming clearer.

No becuase it would be stupid to turn Ellis into a NT both of them could only back each other up or play together on certain downs because there too much of the same being since they are both 1-gap DTs and we dont need a pass rushing DT we needed a ballhawking DB (plus we have Coleman who if he can play up to his old standards is better than jerry and ellis probably)
