People forget that LSU’s 2003 championship team was lead by a 24 year old QB who had a pro baseball career and a 24 year old DT that had worked as a prison guard. And don’t forget Joe Burrow was 23 when he won a Championship at LSU. Having some maturity with some young talent helps out a lot.

Baseball is broken. One team just buying its way to titles. It should have learned from the NFL model of having a salary cap.
That’s what I don’t get about MLB. A good model of how to run a league exists. It might not happen overnight, by why not use that model?

I'm changing my stance on the #8 pick
I don't care who we get out of one of these 8 players. At least one will be on the board at 8 and we will get a stellar player.
In no particular order.
LB/Edge Arvell Reese
S Caleb Downs
WR Carnell Tate
RB Jeremiyah Love
OT Spencer Fano
Edge David Bailey
Edge Keldric Faulk
WR Makai Lemon
I’d take out Faulk because he seems like more of a “potential” than production guy. I haven’t been impressed when I watched him.
I’m on the fence about Tate and Lemon. Tate is high floor low ceiling IMO, and I don’t know if Lemon’s a true #1 either. I think there are really good WRs in this draft. I’m not sure there are elite WRs.
Add Mauigoa to your list and I’m in agreement. I could even be talked into Delane at CB.
So is south Louisiana looking at a few flakes in the middle of the night that won’t stick?

Sell everything!!!
I’m very interested to see what happens during the next bear market or bubble burst. I think i read that almost over 25% of the market is made up of retail investors which is the largest percentage in history. And retail at this point has been conditioned to “buy the dip”. Institutional investors have to account for that and follow suit to a certain extent.
I’m not sure if that holds off a bubble burst, leaves on or the other holding the bag, or doesn’t impact anything at all. Should be interesting though.

Move :insert: to guard.
I’ve championed Fuaga’s move to guard if you can get a top notch RT in the draft. I’ve linked before about his projection to guard coming out of the draft. And his measurables are more in line with elite guards than elite tackles.
I was against Penning being moved to guard. He was too slow to be a guard and really just not very good.
I don’t get why Peat played guard when he was clearly better at tackle. I never understood that one but we seemed to do it for a decade.
I have no idea why McCoy would be moved to guard. He’s never played it and is best kept at center. That seems like a desperate attempt to piecemeal together an OL than invest in it.

Agreed you try and re-sign Fortner though as McCoy is the new Armstead on this team.
Agreed!

I don't expect to spend as much once I am 80 years old.
Be careful to not ignore inflation in this calculation. While you might have less costs/things you’re spending money on, they will likely cost a lot more in 2055-2060.
Also don’t forget you will have increased need/cost for medical care too.
I’m in a similar situation, but about 10 years younger. I plan to live off my pension, SS, Roth and savings when I retire. My 401K will be left alone to grow until I have to take RMDs or have bigger medical expenses.

That's before making harder decisions (kamara - old, ruiz - bad play, mccoy - injury prone, and granderson - is he even worth it)
If we were to not re-sign Taylor, its because he isn't worth the cost he may or may not fetch.
That means you either have to pay Taylor or replace him. And don’t forget Olave.
quote:
ruiz - bad play, mccoy - injury prone
This is what I’m talking about. You have 3/5ths of an OL to fix and you have dead money if you move on from 2/3rds of that 3/5ths. There isn’t an easy fix for the OL.
RB, LB, DT are like speedboats you can fix with one good signing or hit in the draft. OL is like a tanker that turns slowly and takes time to fix.
quote:
No we don't. CKM and Mickey will fix the interior O line in FA.
Link? Who are all these great OGs in free agency that we can actually afford that everyone keeps talking about? We probably aren’t even going to be able to sign Taylor this offseason, much less two good OGs.
If you go Love at #1, you have to sell out for the offense and go OG, TE, WR and OT the rest of the draft. It would suck to go sexy pick #1 and watch him get stonewalled and hurt because our OL sucks and we have no weapons for our QB to throw to. Basically Omarion Hampton or Ashton Jeanty. (I know Jeanty had a decent stats, but where did that get the Raiders this year?)
quote:
Stay away from the landscape fabric unless it is underneath rocks.
Why is everyone so against landscape fabric, it seems like a good idea? Not arguing, genuinely curious. I agree that cardboard seems like a mess.
quote:
O linemen can be brought in from fa
This has been discussed previously, there aren’t a lot of great OGs in FA and the price will be hefty for the good ones.
At pick 8, we need to get a great player. We have a lot of needs, so we don’t really need to be so position specific.
IMO, Downs, Mauigoa, Delane, Bailey, and Reese are the can’t miss guys in this draft. I haven’t seen enough of Fano or Love to say that, but they are highly regarded.
Bain had two great games, but I wasn’t impressed by him in the games I watched during the season. He got most of his TFL and sacks in two games this year. He also has bad measurables which makes him questionable IMO.
Faulk has great measurables, but hasn’t produced a ton and I wasn’t that impressed by the games I saw him in this year.
Tyson has been hurt every year and he doesn’t have elite speed or athleticism. Tate seems like the safest WR, but he seems very good, not necessary elite. There seems to be a lot of very good, not unquestionably elite WRs in this class. (Boston, Bell, Lane, Lemon, Concepcion, Serratt, Bernard, etc.)
I think if Downs is there, you have to take him.
After that, I lean more towards getting Mauigoa and kicking Fuaga inside to OG. That makes us almost an elite young OL compared to the crap it was this year. I think protecting our young QB is paramount, and it will also help our run game.
But if we get on of those other top guys, I won’t be mad. We should have some good options.
As a long time Saints fan, I will not cheer for the 49ers unless they are playing the falcons. But I’m not necessarily cheering for the eagles either.
Go Broncos?

Need advice on my flower beds.
Posted by Suntiger on 1/11/26 at 3:12 pm
I weed my beds and trim my own trees and shrubs, but I’ve never revamped or started an ornamental bed. So I’m here to get some advice on my flower beds that I’ll start working on in the next few months.
1) Weed control. I use mulch and have had professional landscapers put it down in the past. This year the weeds were really really bad. I was thinking of putting down some Hi-Yield weed stopper and some landscaping fabric or cardboard or something before mulching. Thoughts?
2) New/revamp bed: I have a bed next to my house that has some low windows. I have some short bushes that died over the year after not coming back from the freeze. The weeds have totally taken that portion over. Looking at totally cleaning the bed of vegetation and dirt and starting from scratch. I’d like y’all’s thoughts on positives and negatives of just doing a larger stone bed or something simple like ShiShi Camellias or Golden Mops? Whatever it is, I don’t want it to get much higher than 2 - 2 1/2 feet. Bed is against the house and is about 2’x10’.
TIA

re: Unrealistic Mock Draft

I’d take the OP any day. Not sexy, but addresses a lot of the needs and would build a strong base to build on for years to come.
As for your second one, I’m not sure Bell even plays this year. Seems early to take him.

Tyson is so injury prone and not a speed guy like a top 10 guy needs to be. I feel like there had to be better options at other positions at #8.

I like Sarratt, but isn’t he 23 years old or something?
I think there are some solid WRs in this draft. I don’t think there are any can’t miss superstar stud WRs in this draft.

While I’m a big fan of Hannibal and Hamilcar, you can’t include him in this list over Scipio Africanus. Cannie was an amazing feat, but Hannibal was never able to win a war, only battles. And in the end, he lost to Scipio.

Bain is clearly a guy that takes stretches off,
When was that?
My limited observation was him not doing much in the games I watched during the season. I would just expect more production from a potential top 10 pick.
re: DB or Tate??

I wouldn’t be upset if we took Downs, Delane or Mauigoa. I feel like those guys are almost can’t miss top of their position, solid for years to come types of prospects.
I’m concerned about Tate’s top speed and Tyson’s health and athleticism.
I think Resee will be good, but it depends on if a coach can use him properly. I have concerns about Bain and Faulk and lack of production throughout the year.
In all honestly, we have so many needs that I’ll just trust CKM knows what we need and will get the best at those positions.

Don't know how you pass on Bain
Serious question, is Bain really that good? He’s been great in the two playoff games, but the two or three times I watched him during the season I was underwhelmed. Almost half his sacks and TFL have been in the last three games.

Tyson has elite separation skills.
Does he? He seems to lack explosiveness and elite speed and he’s been injured every year. I know SFP had some analytics for Keon Coleman last year showing how he couldn’t separate. I wonder what Tyson’s numbers are.
I agree we need a #1 WR. I think this year has some solid WRs like Tate and Boston, but I don’t know if there is an elite one like a JSN or Chase. IMHO
