How many would love to see it go back there?

I know I would love it and be there.

I'd love to see the LSU, TU, UNO, and even UL against another state the way they used to do it. Sorry LSU pulled out. LSU has such a following now, it might be worthwhile.

my understanding is that the new renovations to the dome will make it impossible to play baseball in there anymore.

I LOVED the Winn Dixie Showdowns (before that, they were the Busch Challenges). I haven't seen a game at the Dome since '03 LSU vs. Tulane. I have no idea why all the games are all of a sudden going on in Zephyr.

I saw LA vs. Florida in '91; LA vs. Mississippi in '92; and LA vs. NC in '97 - last time they did it, I believe. B Larson hit 3 homers in a game against Duke.

It's a great idea if we do any of the following:

LSU, Tulane, ULL (leave out UNO) vs:

Texas, Texas A&M, Rice

USC, Fullerton, Irvine

UNC, East Carolina, Coastal Carolina

Miami, Florida State, Florida

Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts

Those of you who have fond memories of LSU playing in the dome must have been too young to realize it was a baseball game and not a stuff-myself-with-as-much-food-and-junk-as-Mom-and-Dad-would-let-me-have time. :-)

The empty seats swallowed the crowd.
Balls were dead with few home runs even in the gorilla ball days because of the dimensions.
Fly balls were easily lost because of the lights.
The crowd noise was muffled by the empty seats.
Bright, fantastic baseballs days spent inside an architectural interior masterpiece (sarcasm).

Oh, and the Super Dome is a really crappy place to play baseball.

Base ball is an outdoor sport!

The Showdowns were a great idea, but they should be held at the Box.

No, one of the many other domes LSU baseball used to play in.

Or we could do just LSU and Tulane as suggested on here earlier. They could play on Friday and Saturday night against just two schools from another state. Playing them at Zephey Field isn't a bad second option if the Dome isn't available.

The Superdome baseball turf was damaged in Katrina and was thrown out and never replaced.

I can't believe that LSU baseball has not been invited to play in the Astros College Classic yet.

My vote: expand the Wally Pontiff Classic to a full tourney like the WD Challenge used to be. It was LA vs MS in 96, and while it was great competition, they ended up playing both Ole Miss and Mississippi State, who we already see every year. Two or three teams from Texas makes the most sense (Rice, Texas, A&M, Sam Houston, Houston or Baylor). California would be cool as well. Kansas could be good, too (K State, Kansas and Witchita State). Also, I never really liked the Dome for baseball. Hold it at Zephyr or the Box.

Another that I would like to see: A home and away tourney with LSU and Tulane vs Nebraska and Creighton played at the Box here and Rosenblatt there. Of course, it's too late for Rosenblatt now, but it could be held at the new stadium.

Zephyr field would be a great place to host it! Party in New Orleans after the games. I think NO would attract the away teams crowds into coming down.

Yeah, moreso than BR. You'd have no probs getting LSU fans in at Zeph.
