Didn't ruin Friends. That is if you liked Friends before the kids.

Mad About You.... Mabel killed a decent show, but it was already slipping before Mabel was born.

Not really a birth, but the season of 7 on Married with Children was a nightmare.

Cousin Oliver was a failed experiment on Brady Bunch.

A baby didn't hurt Family Ties, of course they advanced the kids age almost immediately.

The Baby on Dinosaurs was actually the funniest part of the show.

Once the Gary Coleman cuteness wore off, the little white kid was a disaster.

I never liked Full House but I don't think the Triplets made it less watchable.

Same goes for Cosby. Once Rudi was older and they brought in new cute kid..... The show didn't fail. It did fail when they brought in cousin Pam and her friends. Plus by the time Denise and the new lil kid came back the show was sinking.

Roseanne was going down in flames by the time Darlene and Roseanne were having babies.

Dexter

Most overrated show, IMO. I just don't get the appeal. And yes, I've seen most of the episodes.

I liked season 1 of Dexter a lot.

I barely finished watching season 2.

I did not finish watching season 3.

I like the show but agree it is one of the most over rated on TV.

Mad About You should've ended with the wife finding out that she was pregnant.

I agree. Season 2 and 3 were not nearly as much fun as season 1.

It's not the childbirth so much. Its just that adding a baby or new kid to the mix has been a terrible plot device for shows who's ratings are not good anymore.

It's been done countless times without much success.

it may ruin the office. the baby needs to make only a few appearances a season. there's only so much michael scott can do to this child.

Give examples of it ruining a show. I can only remember Mad About You. And that show was already in a steep decline before the baby plot.

Same for Roseanne. The writers went batshit crazy long before season 8.

People always say it is the death knell for a sitcom, but I don't remember any that died because of the baby. I think it is more of a last gasp from an already dying sitcom.

Not saying it isn't bad for the show just that I don't remember many off the top of my head.

I doubt the office will use the baby much. Maybe an episode with Michael annoying the hell out of Pam and the baby.

I love me some Dexter but I agree season 3 is a little boring compared to the first 2. But Im cool with it since I dont have Showtime anyway. the suspense until Season 4 comes out of DVD wont kill me

Scrubs did ok after Turk & Carla had their baby...but I don't think that really can be said following the birth of J.D.'s kid.

The baby was not the problem on Scrubs last season. The Interns were the problem.

I lean towards true. I just think it is a shity plot device. Hey, we are low on ideas what should we do? I know, lets throw a baby in the mix. Babies suck on tv. They have to be cared for, they don't really add anything of value, and once there is one there will likely be more.

I'm still waiting for examples. People say this all the time and I have even made the "baby kills shows" statement but now that I think about it, I can't really thing of a show where this happened.

As I said, Mad About You actually had already begun to sink before Mabel came around. Mabel was just the last nail in the coffin lid.

If you agree with the statement, then you must have examples. Share them.
