Smoke and Mirrors

That is what the Les Miles era has amounted to thus far. Les had enough success due to phenomenal athletes and sheer luck that people actually believed he was a great coach. His reputation as the riverboat gambler is now being shown to be what it really is......dumb luck. Nine times out of ten we lose that game to Auburn at home two years ago on the last second bomb to the endzone. If Pittsburgh doesn't beat West Virginia in 2007, guess what? We don't play for a national championship. A large part of being successful is being in the right place at the right time and clearly Les has been in the right place (LSU) at the right time (the last three to four years). Backdooring into the NC game in 2007 gave Les Miles a pass. With solid coaching, we go undefeated in 2007 and play for the national championship without needing Pitt to beat West Virginia.
I would love nothing more than for Les Miles to prove me wrong and finish the year with two huge wins and use that momentum to propel us into next year and win at the least an SEC championship but I am not holding my breath.
Let's face it, Les Miles' run is coming to an end. Les Miles is arguably the fifth best coach in just the western division of the SEC. Let that sink in for a second. Nick Saban, Houston Nutt, Bobby Petrino and arguably Dan Mullen are all better coaches than Les Miles, maybe not better recruiters but better coaches. Les Miles better fix the offense in the offseason or next year is the swan song for the Les Miles traveling show. All it takes is for boosters that donate gobs of money to the athletic department to start tightening the purse strings (which is already happening BTW) and the people that make those types of decisions start to take notice. Money talks and bullshite walks and if the money starts drying up, Les Miles is gone.

funny how sabans sweethearts never mention how we got into the 2003 title game. they all remember pitt in 2007, but 2003, Kansas State, USC, Big 12 title game - none of that rings a bell.

Are you defending Les Miles, or do you just have a hard on for Saban?

neither. both. you can do this shite with any team, any season, any coach. if people want, they can find fault with anything. they can tear it apart and take only what they want, then shine a light and direct your eyes and hope you dont see the whole picture.

Didn't Maineri replace Smoke? And didn't Smoke back up GG Schinn and TK Hulin?

fricking Lesologists.
Did LSU lose it's last regular season SEC game in 2003. To an unranked team? What was LSU's preseason ranking in 2003? 2007? How many times was LSU ranked #1 in 2003? 2007?
You are a joke. Not only to LSU athletics, but to anyone with a braincell in his head. You repeatedly argue with ridiculous and inaccurate points. You never read, just reply.
LSU needs to lose people like you. You are not an alumnus. You are not a TAF donator. You are most likely a member of Les Miles family.
LSU > Miles.
LSU > Saban.
I read your crap and know God has a sense of humor.

Dude are you serious? You cannot be that ignorant can you? Well yes you can and you are!! Take of your hatred shades and get a life. It's people like you that I laugh at because you cannot face the fact that $aban is loooooooong gone and Miles ain't going nowhere anytime soon hoss!! Reading your posts makes me realize how really stupid some people can be and show their arse when it comes to sports!!
But I gotta thank you for helping me make sure that I never stoop to the level of idiocy that you're at!!

Not really. When teams go undefeated, they don't need the "backdoor" excuse. Think Texas, 2005.

FWIW in the 2003 season, OU was #1 in the BCS even after their loss to K-State in the Big 12 Championship Game. The ONLY reason LSU got to play OU for the championship was that USC finished 3rd because of the score of an obscure game out west (Hawaii vs Fresno State? or something like that) which affected the computer rankings just enough for USC to slip from 2nd to 3rd.

It's also pretty incredible to have a two loss NC. The cards definitely had to fall right for Lucky Les that year.

Half of this has been proven the other half will be saturday. Just stay tuned. Of course, the excuses will flow.

Yeah, LSU was the first 2-loss team to play for the BCS Championship. As I recall, we did considerably better than the second team to do it...
