Over this past weekend, I was at A&M's Junior day. I was very impressed with A&M and its facilities and spoke with some of the recruits. On A&M's scout.com page, it says Jalen Brown, a very talented CB, was "blown away by his visit". I talked to Jalen and yeah, he said A&M was pretty cool but it didn't exactly "blow him away" or anything along the lines of that. Same thing pretty much goes with Cedric Reed. Both kids have lots of offers and aren't sure of their futures. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up on that; don't take too literal rivals and scouts' comments on recruits "blown away" by visits. When someone's blown away on a visit in my opinion, that should mean they are going to commit to that university. I know on this board many LSU recruits have been "blown away" on visits and a lot haven't ended up at LSU. Just an FYI.

I mean they're trying to sell their product, so of course they'll make frequent use of hyperboles.

I wasn't trying to criticize them; I was just letting people not to be too excited when an LSU recruit is blown away on a visit. That was my whole point. I enjoy Rivals and Scout a lot; I am a subscriber to both.

The LSU scene CAN and does blow a lot of recruits away. Facilities, coaches (recruiting ability), food, girls.

Their is a direct correlation between how shitty the football team is and how much of this goes on.

I must admit, I never read those articles. I just don't really give a shite.

Unless it's one that's really discussed, I just ignore it.

Yes, Auburn and Tennessee are some of the most notorious in the business.

Even TSD I take with a grain of salt but it's not information on the site, not the articles that I really listen to when I make opinions or draw conclusions. Sonny and Shea will generally tell you the truth and nothing more.

Back when I did subscribe the articles on visits never did much for me. For the most part they are just a bunch of fluff.

Auburn and Tennessee are some of the most notorious in the business.

Most schools have one or two major sites that like to put spin on everything they write. Auburn gets a bad rep from AuburnSports (Rivals), while ITAT's (Scout) writers are mostly unbiased.

The problem is that the most notorious recruiting sites have the best headlines and as a result get the most attention. Recruiting is a business. Because of this, many of these sites made the business decision to throw journalistic integrity out the window.

I would love to know what you were doing at A&M's junior day in the first place and why you were talking to recruits? I was there and I know the writer for Websider (scout's A&M site) and he is very good at what he does. I would take his word over some random poster on TD any day.

I have a feeling you are not telling us the full story. There were some LA recruits there, were you with any of them?

Didn't he tell you guys he would be a Tiger?

The point I'm trying to make is how else would you report the info if your job was to write daily articles on recruits? If Jalen Brown told the writer from scout he was "blown away", of course he is going to incorporate that into his report. That's all. Of course you can't take what a 17yr kid, who has only taken one visit to a college campus, words to heart. A&M is the only thing he knows. Didn't the OP say he was impressed with A&M's facilities? Yes. I doubt he had the interaction with Jalen he claims to have had. Again, I'm not saying that Jalen is going to be an Aggie by any means, I'm just defending my friend's article.

it's not like he's just calling out your friend, he's calling out all writers on the networks. Do you think your friend is immune to embellishing some details in order to prop up the story and attract new subscribers/make the current ones happy? nobody is above that, not even your friend.
