Clayton said it is not a matter of if, but when Russell will be cut. He also said the team could release Russell before Oakland’s minicamp, which runs Friday through Sunday, and that there is no trade market for him.

Honestly though, I think most LSU fans felt that JR wouldn't make a great NFL quarterback. He was one of the few people that didn't benefit from going number 1 overall. And I still think we should have had a NC under him.
Hopefully this will kick him in the butt and he can utilize his talents in the future.

I thought he could be ok if he actually tried. If he worked harder I though he could have a decent career. He has a good arm and can be accurate but has no intangibles. He was a good college QB.

Should have come back for one more season and gone 14-0 in 2007. Oh well, hope he doesn't blow his $50 million.

Likely already has. Prolly bought 3 of those big obnoxious Alabama Necklaces.

Im sure he's well on his way to that. Though he doesn't like partying, gambling, coke, and whores as much as Ryan Leaf did. However he is a 10x's bigger bust than Leaf. Just a damn shame. Million dollar arm and a 10 cent brain.

Well Jamarcus did go #1 and Leaf went #2, so JM would be a bigger bust. However, someone will pick him up and he will get a chance to change that...

he was at the worst organization in the NFL.
he didnt help them, but it wasnt his fault.

...and Kiffin didn't want him. Al Davis made the pick. Kiffin seems like a guy who wouldn't make a 100% effort to help someone if he didn't get his way.

He will go before the minicamp because if he gets hurt they can't cut him without absorbing his salary or bonus or something. Someone on ESPN radio said that yesterday.
JR was doomed with Oakland. Any QB would have been, he just didn't make it any better. I hope he has a moment of clarity like Chris Carter did when he was cut by the Eagles. I hope he signs with Washington and gets a chance to sit and learn to be a real pro and uses his next chance wisely. A lot of talent wasted if he doesn't.

there was no peyton manning the year jr came out. you may remember, but there was MUCH debate on who should go #1 that year. many of the 'experts' were touting leaf.

Im sick of LSU fans defending Russell and just saying that "oh well, nobody could win in Oakland"...Oakland is not any worse of a team to go to than the Lions, Browns, or Rams. Of course the #1 pick is going to go to a shitty team, its his job to help turn it around, and he failed at that..miserably
