This is what is feared. Leave it on the damn surface so it can be cleaned up

I know BP is trying to do the best PR it can but com'on now.
Out of sight out of mind is not a philosophy that should be used in oil spills.

Three or four large plumes have been found, at least one that is 10 miles long and a mile wide
And yesterday they got permission to use these dispersants 24/7.

This thing just got really ugly. Wait till one of these babies washes up on the shoreline.

The midlevel water currents are flowing towards the east. It'll be a few months before it starts washing ashore in FL. We are in this for the long haul no doubt.

Not at all, it defiantly doesnt apply in this case

Florida keys, the coral reefs.
Rantards were flaming me when I pointed this likelihood out on day 2.

Just dont believe all the sunshine. We are on day 26 now. Hopefully more scientific data can be collected so we can get a better handle on this disaster.

How in the frick are we to gather scientific data when BP is keeping scientist away from the "safety zone" The M/V Pelican only found the plumes because they were sampling well away from the original spill site. BP is more interested in spinning the news to their favor so that they can defend themselves in court when the lawsuits start hitting the courtrooms. everything else is secondary to their liability.

This exactly the reason why the Navy or Coast Guard should take over command of this operation and use BPs resources and so called expertise. There is fricking way we should continue to trust a slimy corporation to be in control of this. No more externalities. Just do what needs to be done no matter what.

Yea the British suck, there about as arrogant as they come.

I don't really understand why BP all of a sudden practically owns and controls the waters. I can understand they need some area to work near the accident site but to allow BP to say who can and can't use federal waters around the site is scary.
Is it because of their lease? Do they only control the area they leased or is it areas outside of their lease also? I haven't seen much info on this.

“The answer is no to that,” a BP spokesman, Tom Mueller, said on Saturday. “We’re not going to take any extra efforts now to calculate flow there at this point. It’s not relevant to the response effort, and it might even detract from the response effort.”
BP says more data will not help.

If the plumes are accurate they are a slushy mass of oil, ice and entrained gas
as it moves to lesser depths with warmer temps and less pressure the icy slush will melt away releasing the methane and the oil
this will result in the plume slowly melting away and releasing slicks with more oil to collect
In other words if the plumes reported are real this will continue as an ongoing mess until the plumes are depleted

A point which you conceded immediately when the issue of dilution was raised. But I guess Baytiger is a ranter and you just needed one person to bring it up again to "prove" you right.
Its got at least a thousand miles of sheering action to face, and unless I am mistaken, it isn't even heading towards Florida right now, all the while it is being chewed apart to oblivion.....but yeah...go ahead and start trying to serve crow now.

Pretty sure the explanation was that it was caused by the introduction of dispersant right at the leak.

And cause a shitton of harm while it is there.
Unless this somehow manages to sneak its way up and hit land, the only harm this batch will cause is the deoxygenation of the water as the oil is being broken down.
Folks, it is at least 3 THOUSAND feet down. There is essentially nothing living there outside of the occasional transiant, and I don't think the usual suspects ever enter the gulf..
