Season six started filming nearly ten years ago.
At this point I don’t want to even read it. The time gap in Dance compared to the first books was palpable. The writing style had changed, characters were obviously reimagined, and none of it ever sat right with me.

No it doesn’t. Not even attempting to merge till you are already stopped thus requiring the other lane to artificially stop completely as well to create an opening for you removes the benefit of having the open lane.
You can’t use the logic and studies about zipper merging to justify something that isn’t zipper merging. Yes you want to use as much of the closed lane as possible without having to stop. So as you approach, you reduce speed to match the other lane and try to get in

To be fair, it isn’t the Fox X-men. It’s some multiversal spin off of them. And I’m assuming they’ll come in some portal or something because narratively it makes no sense for them to be in the same universe and not approach the avengers after the first one.
And like you said, it’s odd that they would bring them up only to drop them but basically that’s what’s going to have to happen I think. There’s no future there with the X-men. At best they aren’t all killed but they have to go home to their own universe.
