that's why you kick a 29 yard field goal on 1st down.

it took two screens that both took great individual efforts to get us that close. get over yourselves Saints 'fans,' any coach kicks that ball, cause it's a gimme.

we were in position to beat arguably the 2nd (no worse than the 4th) best team on our schedule on a ridiculously short week despite not being able to get off the field on D and two bad throws by Drew.

fans quickly forget the bad days, not this one

I don't know who you are, but you are all kinds of right.

Exactly...could you imagine the reaction and meltdown if we had tried running one more play and a fumble or INT occurred...right decision by SP, poor execution plain and simple!

If you are an NFL kicker that kick should be a gimmie. Every coach in the league would've done the same thing

I think we should have run 1 play. You could see on Hartley's face that he was shitting his pants with the back to back timeouts. Get him on the sideline to kick into the net and get the butterflies moving out. Run a play to get to the center and kick it on 2nd down.

You're right.

The ONLY mitigating factor is that we had to call timeout, and then Atlanta called timeout.

That's a long time for a kicker to be sitting there.

Any other situation, I take the kick on 1st. In this one, I MIGHT have put the offense back on the field and ran it once or twice just to give him a chance to refocus...

But more than likely its the right call. An NFL kicker needs to make that every time.

why kick a 29 yarder when you can kick a 22 yarder? 22 would have been good FYI.

My getting it would have earned us a victory yesterday. Your getting it resulted in a loss.

i'd love to hear how exactly you would have gotten us in position to kick a 22yard field goal because frankly, i must not get it.

and don't say running the football. Pierre was hurt and ivory got stuffed behind the line of scrimmage twice in a row just 2&3 plays earlier. and don't say passing either. A 7 yard difference inside the 20 is no difference so why even take the risk of a tipped ball or a sack. maybe we should have thrown our 3rd screen pass of the drive huh?

Devery double reverse end around. (since you took away all my options from me) It's like our goal line charm against the falcons.

just out of curiosity ajf, what yardage marker is it where we stop trying to pick up any more yards in situations exactly like that. What range field goal would you say "okay, let's stop here"

No hidden agenda, just an honest question.

Knew it was bad

I could tell when watching Hartley he was not clear in his head. I could see on TV he looked bad. I said prior to the missed kick they should send out the offense.
No second guessing here, I called it prior to the missed kick.

Two timeouts and the weight of an entire game is a lot to think about when just last week your kick was tipped at the end of the game. The difference between this kick and the one to tie, is the falcons could not ice him.

A fake field goal in this situation would have been absolute money!
