If you were in John Chavis' position. How would you prepare your LSU defense to stop Cam Newton and Auburn's Offense? just curious..

assign alternating spies and show blitz, but drop back in coverage to give time for the rush to get to him...

i can only answer in general terms, not being a football guru. but i would let my corners cover man to man and stack the box. 3- 4 men on or close to the line with linebacks/safeties behind them covering gaps. i would probably be bringing 5 guys in every time on a run blitz.
some zone with blitzing might be effective - i would still probably always let PP and Claiborne go man to man on their guys all the time.
like gary danielson said during the ark game, and i think it was good analysis - eat up the space. don't let him get started. he has a decent arm but he needs his receivers open to hit them, which he can get if he is running free.

Put Peterson Kelvin Nevis Mingo and Mathieu on the line and just blitz like hell and gang tackle him and knock him out the game first play of the game.

zone blitzing so that if he gets past the first line he isn't running free til he gets to our safeties. our defense is up to the challenge i think. they will take stopping cam newton personally

I hate the idea of using a spy. We need between 7-8 guys going after him on every play, holding their positions and containing him to keep him from making a play to the outside or on the read option.
We can play man coverage all night against their WRs. I don't think this is a concern if he breaks free... if we stack the box and he beats it, that's a risk I'm willing to take with how athletic we are at all positions.

All six of the BCS school QB's beaten by LSU rank among the top 100 total offense guys in the country and other than Yates(2 busted cov. big plays) all of them were held well below their averages. Maybe a bigger question is how do AU coaches get their defense to buy into LSU even having an offense, seeing as how the Tigers are the only top 25 team without a player in the top 100 of total offense.

Our Defensive players are skilled and smart enough to switch off and throw everything looks possible at Cam Newton. It will be top defensive against one of College Football's best running QB's.

I would not blitz much. I would drop back try to limit running lanes and try to frustrate him into making mistakes. I thought Arkansas blitzed way to much, and Auburn would let them run right by them then Cam would take off. I would show blitz then drop back but play man on the corners with safety help.

Blitz straight upfield.
If we blitz around the end and allow him to step up in the pocket, that's when he picks his lane and takes off.
We have to keep him moving back or rolling out.
