Will my fellow ranters say that we still haven't beaten anybody good the last 3 years?

It is certainly possible. Bama could lose to AU and a currently 7-2 Miss State team. And would they at the same time discount the win over 10-2 and 9-3 MSU team?

They will do it for Bama as well.

And I still don't know what the definition of a "good team". we have beaten quite a few top 15 team type teams. So they have to be top 10 teams, like those are easy to come by. Auburn was top 10, but they don't count because they didn't finish top 10. And if a team wasn't top 10 when we beat them, but ends up top 10 they probably aren't good either.

It's November, and Alabama is favored to win out.

Phil Steele currently projects Alabama to play Oregon in the BCSNC game. I only use him as an example, because his name does carry some weight with most respected college football analysts.

I always recognize any wins at Auburn, Georgia, and Florida as special, and we had one of each in '08, '09, and '10. All three were death defying victories in the final moments. Definitely exciting, but I'm not sure any could be used to demonstrate a strong job of preparation and game management.

As a matter of fact, the Georgia and Florida games are loaded with more than questionable decisions involving clock management and play calling. But, my point is not to belittle these wins. Just to point out they all occured early to midway through the season.

This game Saturday, without question, can be added to the list prepared by one of the posters in regards to his explanation of fan apathy. Go out and beat Bama in November, when the table is set for them to repeat as champions, and that would qualify in anyone's mind as a big game.

Do you think it can be done? I think Bama could turn the ball over 3 times. I think our defense and special teams could make enough plays to give us a chance. That's why I'm going to be there. Do I have faith in our offensive staff to put these kids in a better position to win than they have thus far this season? No.

I think we would have a better chance to win up by 1 with Bama at midfield with 2 minutes left, than we would with the ball at their 20 down by 1 and the same time remaining. I would spend the last 2 minutes watching Miles and the clock like a tennis match.

Florida is unranked currently. MSU still sucks, you are just looking for an excuse to strengthen LSU's win.
This year's Florida is not the Florida we have seen over the couple of years. This is their rebuilding year. We have been rebuilding for a minute now we still haven't built a championship team.

Do we say Bama is good purely based on hype then from the previous year?

So as long as a team is ranked highly going into the season it is a good win? Just like that Auburn 2008 team, right?

I don't see Bama losing more than 2 more games. They'll be at worst 9-3 going into the bowl games.

Remains to be seen, how they finish out. UF has looked like crap all season long.

Nah. Bama will finish top 12 or so at worst.

matt, of all people, you should know it's not how a team starts, its how they finish. What seems like a great win at the time gets discounted in a lot of different ways at season's end.

Does nobody follow college football around here?

The media especialy ESPN will skew anyone's schedule the way that will make them look like they know what they are talking about. That is why the AP poll pulled out of the BCS process back in 2003.

The media has already discounted LSU if they beat Bama but if Bama wins it is a great win because it is who they want to be in the BCS CG as the one-loss team to face either Oregon or Boise/TCU.

The reason they have discounted LSU is because of LSU's sideline or Coaches. They say LSU has the talent but the Coaches hurt LSU's chances with the voters.

Considering that Matt works with numbers and figures out BCS ratings, etc that he would understand that concept right? I'm with you on that.

Truth is people define it how they want to to make the point they want to make. If one wants to say LSU hasn't beaten a "good" team lately, one defines "good team" to fit that statement. If LSU beats a team that finishes in the top 10 but not the top 5, people that want to say they haven't beaten a good team will define good as top 5 teams at the end of the year.

The same thing I said but without the media saying it. That is what ESPN does, they say that if Bama beats LSU it is a good win but, if LSU be3ats Bama they say that LSU does not have any good wins to justify what they want. They are covering their perverbial asses.

This thread is wishful thinking. Bama won't lose 4 games. Maybe to Auburn, who looks unstoppable, but that's it. How is LSU going to win Saturday without the threat of the forward pass? If you are a LSU fan, you should already realize what Nick Saban will do. Bring the house, 11 guys on the line at the snap and make the QB beat you. What do you think the chances of that happening are?

The season can't be boiled down to beating 'one team'. This is a typical oversimplification of the Rant and the inability to read and write in context, and understand critical thinking.
