The Whole Crowton Argument (another perspective)...

Would you still want GC gone if LSU's offense continued to perform like it did in the second half of the game against 'Bama?
Consider: perhaps the last game is the first time (since Perilloux's departure) that either QB has finally turned their perspective corners...and from here on we could see more of the same successful passing game.
Think about. To me, the problem looks less to be Crowton's and more just time it took for LSU to get out of the whole Perriloux left.
Just another perspective. Be careful what you wish for.

This is Les's baby now. I say if he wants to go all in with Crowton then let him. If one half of football was enough to convince the fan base I say keep Crowton. I am seriously OK if they keep Crowton. It will either workout or it won't.

We run nothing against lower tier competition. Very predictable offensive playcalling often results in low scoring games against Mcneese State, La Tech, etc. GC's multiple offense features many different formations including spread passing, spread zone-read, power-I, one tailback, and lead option.
Pros:
- Opponents have no useful game film with which to break down tendencies. You have Saban, possibly the best coach in the business, saying that "LSU made adjustments he didn't expect".
- Since the offense is multiple, it features plays and formations that are designed to work against any type and style of defense. Defense is powerful on the D-Line and in the LB corps but weak in the secondary? Open it up through the air.
Cons:
- Green QBs have more to learn than possibly any other system.
-Since we don't run many different types of plays against lesser competition, there is little actual game time to practice, therefore opening up the possibility of gametime rust against upper tier opponents.
- OL recruiting has to take into account the different scheme variations. OL that are good at zone blocking will not necessarily be the best in a power-I system or a deep spread passing system.

IF we show great productivity over the next 3 games and explode offensively in one of them or the bowl game....I may give him a second thought with two average QBs, but experienced average QBs, coming back.
If not all of the above, I want him gone, I really can not see our Offense doing worse, and you have a spring and offseason, for two experienced QBs to pick up.

it gets ugly early, and Bama's second/third string plays nearly the entire second half.
After last season and this one so far, I am disturbed at what I am seeing and have absolutely no faith whatsoever in Les Miles.

What Crowton has to keep doing to be successful is not be afraid to throw the ball on first down. On our two plays on the 96 yard drive LSU threw the ball on first down. That was the beginning of putting Alabama's defense off balance.

No I don't want to keep him our qb's should be improving and they are not.One game does not change anything for me.Stud should also be gone at end of year IMHO.

Les allowed Crowton to stick to the game plan. Les allowed Crowton to relay the call through Gonzalas not himself. Les didn't grab the play chart but once that I saw. RESULTS, a successful offensive performance!! LES LET YOUR OFFENSIVE COACHES COACH!!!

Absolutely! Perilloux's been gone over two seasons so that's not the issue this year.
Our QB's aren't getting enough coaching to develop their skills. Too much of the young talent doesn't get into the games. Too much confusion as to which "packages" are implemented and when.
The game against Alabama last weekend doesn't make up for the past three years.

I don't know what to think.

As has been said, one half of pretty good play calling cannot overcome GC's past record--the offense statistically still ranks pretty low & someone should be held accountable.

@Andrew - thanks for the most rational explanation of the offense's struggles I've seen on this otherwise very emotional board. My only addition would be to point out that neither JJ nor JL are freshmen. Gotta give credit to JL for improvement, but I think that speaks more to his character than to our coaches' ability to develop QBs. We need someone in place that can take our exceptionally talented recruits and develop them to be able to run such a complex offense....

I don't think that one game, or four if you include the remaining three, are enough to overcome GC's past two and a half years of playcalling. I think he should get canned regardless after this year. I also think that he didn't call all of the plays this past Saturday, I think Les and maybe Gonzo had alot to do with our all of a sudden 300 yard second half offense

And you know this how?
I am really confused about all of this. I have not been a big fan of Crowton, but could it be that we're really just consistent QB play away from being a top flight offense? How can the offense can look so good at times and then so bad other times? Who is running the offense and is Miles really interfering? Only thing I've seen is speculation by the different camps (some believing GC sucks, while other believing it's Miles' meddling). In fact, I'd really like to know who's responsible for the clusterfrick at the end of the Tennessee game, etc.
