On August 9, 1985 my grandmother who lived with us and i was very close to passed away suddenly. i was 9 at the time.

That day, my friend's dad took us to 3 movies back to back to back (i guess to get me out the house so my parents could deal with everything).

i enjoyed all three of these movies and would still watch 2 of 3 of them if they come on today. i don't associate these movies with my grandmother (they're all comedies/kids movies) but i'll always remember the circumstance of when i first saw these movies.

do you associate any movies with what was going on in your life at the time? breakups, deaths, divorce, or you know happy stuff (graduation, birthdays, holidays, etc?)

just curious.

btw the three movies were real genius, the explorers, and goonies. we saw them in that order.

Immediately after my dad and I finished watching Braveheart for the first time on VHS, breaking news of Lady Di in a car crash was airing.

Is that kind of what you are looking for?

Broke my arm in little league and started throwing frozen ropes right after. shite was crazy. They had just made a fictional movie about that 5 days before.

I think there are plenty of guys out there that can relate to 500 Days of Summer. I know I do. Stuck on a girl that you were crazy about when all you really need to do to be happy is move on.

One that I am attached to emotionally is Gadiator. I know it gets hated on a lot around here but that movie makes me think of my grandma. My grandma was very sweet and had a bad childhood so it made her dislike pretty much anything with violence. She wouldn't watch rated R movies. But one day not long before she died me, my mom and her sat down and watched Gladiator. Pretty sure she didn't know what it was going in or she wouldn't have watched it. But she watched that whole thing. I had never seen my grandma cry before, but she cried at the end of that movie. Not long after that she passed. That movie is very sentimental to me and I cry every time I watch it.

Pearl Harbor. Saw that the same day I graduated from High School. Had family in town and we decided to go see a movie in the Afternoon. I was pumped up that night when I went out to party.

Furthermore, the "pear harbor sucked" song on team America also reminds me of high school graduation.

But I do remember my family taking my lil sister to see Jurassic Park for her first movie theatre experience. Always remind her about that.

When I saw Up in the Air, I was on the verge of getting laid off, along with the rest of the company. It happened a month later. So the movie had extra meaning to me, and I would still think about that experience again if I rewatched it.

Ok, I reached into my memory banks and pulled out a keeper.

I was looking for a graduate school to get into without much success for about a year. In that time I was searching for jobs to get the money I needed to keep looking for graduate schools.

I went and saw 'Pursuit of Happyness' in the theater when it came out. It is a good thing it was dark in there, because I literally cried for 2/3 of the movie. Right when he and his son went to the baseball game and he saw his son was having fun when he realized nothing was going to come of this venture made me lose it.

I was in the same predicament he was. I had a happy ending too.

After 9-11, seeing the original Spiderman in the theatres was powerful. Shot at the end, when Spidey is on the flag pole with the giant American flag struck a chord with me.

First date with my ex was to "300". First time I ever met my current GF of 3 years was at "21". Maybe I'll make her watch "2001" when I propose

After my dad's funeral, we watched The Big Lebowski (he was a Coen brothers fan). during the Donnie's ashes scene, I think I luaghed harder than I ever had in my life. It was the first time I felt good in a week.

I randomly watched The Family Man for the first time while preparing for investment banking interviews. That's all I got.

then i suggest you never find out how different real life was from the movie.

When I stepped off of the C130 at my FOB, I thought back to the end of The Hurt Locker, when SFC James is back in Iraq and it says "365 days left in Delta Company".

Not in Delta Company, but just pretty much thought the same thing to myself... "365 days left at FOB ****"
