I love LSU and LSU sports. I have had season tickets for 22 years in football and 2 other sports. I am a member of TAF would guess I give (through TAF+ ticket prices etc.) about 5% of my family’s annual after tax earnings to LSU athletics in one form or another. I do this because
1)I Love LSU sports
2)I enjoy going to the games
3)I 100% believe and think evidence supports you need major $$$ to have successful athletics
I am tired of so many on chat boards, the radio etc. complaining about what it costs to support LSU athletics. They seem to be in a few different groups
1)The intentionally uniformed, lazy or just stupid group who do not even bother to read and understand. For example, Richard C on his sports talks show blasting LSU for charging $2k to replace windows. He, as is often the case for him, spoke before he knew any details and looked, as is often the case, like an idiot imo. This project was 100% done with private funds and will (everyone agrees) make Tiger Stadium look MUCH better. If someone chooses to give to this we should all thank them as fans. Why be critical of how others choose to spend THEIR money!
2)The “I have been a fan for 100 years and have always had season tickets even in the bad years so I am God” group. Sure, you should NEVER have to pay more for our teams to have competitive facilities etc., because you are so special for paying for tickets the last 100 years. I am sure you went to every game so let others pay because you are so special and likely the only ones to ever attend all those games in the 1980’s-1990’s etc.
3)The “let the rich pay I do not have the money crowd” these are my favorite!!! I may make more than you, I may make less, but if everyone gave 5% (Or 3% or 10%) then we all are sacrificing the same to support LSU.
So why always complain about service charges, the tradition fund or ticket increases. We are all in the same boat and are no different than other major programs. Do you really feel because you are an LSU fan you should pay less than Ala, Aub, or any of 50 other D1 programs? Want to end up like Ole Miss?
I welcome everyone’s thoughts, do you think LSU is stealing your money? Do you think we are any different than other major program? Do you think we can win at this level without more money? Do you think TAF is an evil group of rich middle aged men who don’t love LSU as much as everyone else?

This is one of the best post I have read on this site. I would love for tickets to be cheaper. I had my worse financial year of my career last year (I lost money). But I do not ever complain. 1) complaining does not help or change things & 2) if you give up your tickets someone else will buy them

How much were tickets when LSU won the 2003 national championship?

My tickets were in a non-TAF section so no donation was required. I believe face value was $36 per game (maybe less), so $252 per ticket for the 7 home game season.

Are they stealing my $? I might feel better about it if they were. Instead, I, like you, are giving it to them. I've thought about letting me fb tickets go, but I can't. There's nothing like watching the game live in Tiger stadium.
Now, the real problem is the state of sports in this country. Every sport, everywhere. As long as the salaries in pro sports continues to rise, it will continue to trickle down to the college level by placing more emphasis on winning. Winning at any cost. Ala, Ohio St. Think about it, their fans are paying as much, or more, than us, but yet some of these KIDS feel they need more (cars, $, etc.) to attend their prestigious program and school.
Will I keep paying. Yes. Why? Those that have been in Tiger stadium know why.
Forever LSU!

Now there is a donation attached to every seat of various amounts depending on the location. The face value total for the 6 game home schedule this year is $320 per ticket, with the individual game price varying depending on the quality of the opponent.

volt, well said agree 100%, not an LSU specific issue and I would like to see costs not go up so much, but I am afraid there is nothing we can do...and also, we have VERY FEW actual sellouts, so tickets are very often had for face value, sure they are not great seats but I would think anyone on this Board can afford 30-40 to see a game. Again, be nice if we all could sit 50 yard line and drive new BMW's, but that aint real.

bottom line, I love LSU. I love LSU sports, but there are other things much more important in life. enjoy them for what they are, and if we can afford, or want to give money to the school, great. If not, still great. The university is bigger than new windows on Tiger Stadium. My kids are more important than maintaining season tickets.
It's a form of entertainment. Don't let them sucker you into thinking it's more than that. The committment based on false pretenses will leave you holding the empty bag one day.

Don't necessarily agree/disagree with all of the above..... Main thing that disapoints me is that it is getting to the point that "average" folks can not afford to go anymore. Not really sure what to do about it, but I think everyone agrees that it sucks. I have been going to games for 26 years now, and I can honestly say that stadium is not the same as it was even 5-6 years ago, because a lot of the "average" crazies that made it great can not afford it anymore.

I love LSU athletics and have absolutely no qualms about paying substantial sums of money to purchase tickets and otherwise support the program. I demand excellence from the university's athletics department and I recognize that such excellence comes at a rather dear cost.

That being said, I offer two reservations: (1) Although I am (currently) fortunate enough to be able to afford whatever prices LSU may charge for the privilege of attending games, I do feel genuine sympathy for long-time boosters and fans who have to relinquish their tickets because of rising prices, family expenses, or employment difficulties. Plainly put, that just sucks; (2) the pay for parking measure that LSU instituted this season infuriates me. I am not enraged by the charge itself, but by the fact that the plan seems like a premeditated attack on LSU's unique tailagating culture - one of the best aspects of gameday. As someone who has lived outside of Louisiana for the majority of his life and has attended multitudinous football games at other venues, I can honestly say that LSU's tailgating tradition is simply unrivaled. It's special in all of the world. That is not hyperbole. I would hate to see that tradition eradicated or eroded by a misguided campus administration.

To a degree, yes. How's that $28M +/- invested into the new A. Box looking the last two years? How about the new softball facility? How about the ROI on the men's and women's basketball coaching salaries the last two years?

Some great points to my op. It is hard when long time fans get priced out but lsu does a good job of helping in allowing some tickets to have little or no tradition fund payments. Maybe not great seats but still at the game. Also good point on return on softball field etc but this is just part of the rules for title ix and NCAA we have to provide for a certain number of sports we have no choice here. Not lsu specific all big time programs. Still we are only 1 of 7 sec gym teams so we could cut that. But politically tough to do much mor

100% fact, but the arrogant OP made it perfectly clear that he could care less about the number of LSU die hard fans that have been priced out. He's got his tickets and screw everybody else. (More and more common self-centered attitude that's seen today)

Tiger Stadium still gets loud at specific moments, but from game start to finish over the course of a season, it's not even close any longer. Day games, ticket prices, way too many corporate tickets and coaching dissatisfaction all contribute.

Personally, since moving out of Louisiana, I don't feel the "need" to be in that stadium every game. I'll try to be there for all the big OOC and S.E.C. games at night, but in the grand scheme of things, it's just not that important any longer. And, since the TS atmosphere is not quite what it used to be, it's not that hard to walk away.

Many good points have been made in this thread.

I would like to ask : What will everyone's thoughts on rising ticket prices be when the next Curley Hallman like dry spell hits....and it will hit at some point in the future.

I think that the high prices charged makes losing absolutely unacceptabe. The next dry spell in LSU football will make the Archer and Hallman eras seem mild.

Winning big is now the only option.
