Gator meat price??????

I know of someone who caught one off private property, was 6'10" and he cleaned and bagged the meat.He sold it for 400. Is that about right? Illegal yes but it wasnt me lol.

no. gator meat is going for 5 to 10 bucks a lb right now depending upon grade,freshness, quality, etc..
the tail off a 7ft gator will yield about 8lbs of edible meat. you will get a about that from the entire rest of that gator.

also, to legaly sell the meat you must have a usda approved facility complete with x-ray capabilities.
it is highly doubtfull that joe blow would have this ability to sell the meat.

People sell illegal game all the time so it's not like having/not having a USDA facility will curb that.

I have never heard of a x-ray capable gator processing room. And I used to sell my gators to several processors. My family even processed gators a few years back and sold the meat to be further processed.

And meat is not worth $5-$10/lb. At the wholesale level you will probably only get $1-$2(if lucky) for non-deboned meat. It might be less than that now. You can buy processed and tenderized gator meat for $5-$6 wholesale in 1lb vacuum packs and can expect to pay $1-$3 more a pound at the retail level.
