So my father has been talking about wanting to get between 2-4 season tickets for a while now and he seems to have called TAF and asked how much money it will take to guarantee a position to get tickets when offered...

He just wants to write a donation check and not have to worry about it. Typical old man retiree shite. Well, apparently TAF won't give him an X amount he needs to contribute to put him a position on the list to be offered....they just say "this will give you X amount of points"...not relative to where you'd be at on the list.

He wants to contribute and I'm assuming he has a max amount in mind but doesn't want to contribute to find out it wasn't enough. I'm thinking it was around 25-30K but I told him I didn't know if that'd get him anywhere close to what he needed....thoughts?

He should seek priority ranking at or below 2000.

How much money though would it take to break into that...is it even possible is the question.

NO doubt he would get tickets. He would put himself in position to get good seats with a donation that size too.
I would say that with a donation as little as 5k he could get seats next year. Maybe not even that much.
Just depends on how good of seats he wants.

Well he'd definitely do 5K easy but I think he wants them in the bowl...no uppers so he is a bit picky with that.

Can't say that I blame him

To be safe and if he isn't trying to land at "just enough" to get in the lower bowls I'd say 10k would guarantee you tickets in the lower bowl. I'd do 5k at the end of the year. And 5k at the beginning of the year. Get a tax writeoff for both years and get the bonus of donating at the 5k mark two times.

The way I understand it that would give him 7 bonus points and 10 regular points (if philanthropic) for a total of 17 points. I think that would barely break below the 4,000 ranking level philanthropic. That might get him the option to buy some singles at best.

Is it 10k year after year or just a one time donation? I'm about to graduate and will soon lose the luxury of student tickets

You forgot the 3 points for giving at least $100, it is added to the other points for a total of 20 points each year giving $5000, or 35 points for each year giving $10000.

If he has no points right now he would almost certainly have to give at least $10000, but it would be better to give $5k now and $5k at the beginning of next year for 40 points.

Even that would be borderline for 4 tickets in the lower bowl I think. 4 in the upper deck or 2 in the lower bowl shouldn't be a problem at that level.

Had a friend do this a couple of years ago, and to score stadium club seats and parking pass was closer to six figures if memory serves.

It's a shame trying to get football tickets has become some mathematical formula. I'm just going to tell him 15K will put you in a competitive spot and if you don't like what you end up getting give another 10K the following year. He's bound to get something...and definitely get the baseball tickets I want.

This is what I told the old man. I figured it'd have to be some serious donation money to just jump up to the 100s. I told him he needs to be happy if he gets the bowl for the money he wants to contribute.

Had no idea you got double bonus points. Sounds a lot like buying groceries in the 80's.

You have to get on the wait list first. Your position on the wait list is determined by your priority points ranking. If his intention is to get LOWER BOWL seats (considering the long list of people who want tickets already and the amount already contributed by people in the front of the line), he'll probably have to put in about $150k-$200k and leap over a lot of well-healed frogs - who keep putting in new money every year, thereby making it even harder to get seats.

I wouldn't do $15k, the bonus points kick in at $5k, $10k, and $25k. If he really wants 4 in the lower bowl I would give $10k this year and $5k next year which would give him 55 points. I was able to get 4 in the lower bowl with 53 points this year.

That's insane...I thought it was just total amount contributed over time. I had no idea there were so many people putting up 200K of donations. That's just nuts.

Jesus Christ.

I'm glad we got our tix before all this crazy shite started. There is no way we would be able ot afford them now.

Four years of making the minimum $100 TAF donation is all it took for me. Plus a waiting list fee of $10 per year for two of those years. So $420. My tickets are in the South end zone.

I once called TAF and asked them as well about what donation would guarantee season tickets. They told me it would be around 20k at the time. Glad I didn't do that! (not that I could have)

If he gives 5000 for 2011 and 5000 at the beginning of 2012, he will get season tickets in the lower bowl....he'd get 20 points for both donations (40 total), and his philanthropic rank would shoot easily into the Top 2000.

That said, if you do the math on that vs what you'd spend buying tix on the open market, it's going to take 5-10 years to break even.
