Is LSU hurt if ATM joins the SEC?

Texas A&M joining the SEC means that potential LSU recruits from east Texas who want to play in the SEC could play for their home state school instead of LSU. ATM is a natural rival of LSU, and their potential reemergence could directly affect LSU. We have seen UGA stand against inviting GA Tech, UF block inviting FSU, and USC protest inviting Clemson. Is LSU in the same boat with ATM?

i don't think players from Texas come to LSU because they want to play in the SEC...i think they come because they want to play for LSU
is this true? i've never heard about this before

I don't think most of the players care about what conference they play for. They care about the actual program and...WINNING.

I think that most East Texans or SE Texabs would rather play for LSU.

It could hurt LSU a bit in the East Texas region simply due to the proximity of the two schools.
However, A&M joining the SEC (should it ever happen) would hurt Texas more, since it could then offer potential recruits the chance to compete in the SEC (and, thus, improve their skills and potential draft status).

Idk if those schools admins have been against their in state rivals joining, but alot of internet talk points that direction. It would make sense that they would be against it though.

Think about it this way. LSU has zero instate recruiting competition. To the north and east, we have Arky and the Mississippi schools, who just cant offer a recruit what LSU can. To the west we have UT and ATM. UT mainly recruits Texas guys, so they choose to ignore LA guys usually. UT is usually so dominate that they keep ATM in a weak position and therefore, ATM is usually not an attractive team to major recruits. All this adds up to LA having a large protected recruiting area where they sell the best product.
But if ATM reemerged, possible helped by joining the SEC, they could step out of UT's shadow and compete with LSU much more than Arky and the Mississippi schools could.

Same with LA kids that go out of state...the allure to play for your home state isn't always strong.

I am not sure. We recruit well out of Houston area already and that is their back yard. I think that would be the one area where we could be set back. Other than that no.

I think it would definitely hurt, there are a lot of recruits that say their goal is to play in the toughest conference, the sec.
It surely wouldn't help, IMO.

Tam was actively being sought by the SEC last year, the chancellor spoke to me about it when it was going on.

The addition of aTm would be awesome for the SEC, while sending the newly constitued Big XII (X)into a state of instant disarray. The addition of Texas markets overrides any concerns about the move, and the rivalry with LSU will be an instant classic with fans along the Louisiana/Texas I-10 big winners. Unfortunately, this is probably a pipedream as the powers that be in the Lone Star State will not let it happen.

It could hurt LSU some, but only with a couple of players a year at the most. It would hurt Texas the most IMO.

ATM joing the SEC is the absolute best outcome for ATM, but would put pressure on LSU. A great selling point for ATM would be that ATM would be the only school in TX to play against SEC teams every year. ATM has always lived in UT's shadow & always will as long as they play in the same conference. There is a large contingent of old Ags holding a lot of influence who outwardly express hate for UT but are compelled to want to stay in the orange shadow. I have never understood this but I know there were progressive thinking Ags who wanted to oust their AD when he passed on the chance to go to the SEC & therefore allow ATM to seek its own identity going forward. The difference between UT & ATM is that UT will ALWAYS do what's in the best interest of UT, but ATM does not always do what's in its best interest.

Jakhari Gore, Steven Rivers, Ryan Baker, Karnell Hatcher, Travis Dickson, JC Copeland, Kevin Minter, T-Bob Hebert, Justin Maclin, Cameron Fordham, Josh Williford. Greg Shaw, Kendrick Adanams and Sam Montgomery disagree.....and that's just the current roster.

I think LSU supported A&M's attempt to move into the conference in the late 80s/early 90s. I don't think LSU would be against this move.

I've never heard of a player picking a school because of the conference. They pick a school because of the school.
