re: Worst GM in Sports history?

Jeff Ireland.

The Miami Dolphins badly needed an OT heading into the 2013 NFL Draft. The first 2 players taken were OT 's - Eric Fisher and Lujke Joeckel. Ireland moved up to the #3 spot trading the #12 and #42 picks to the Raiders. The Dolphins had a Pro Bowl pass rusher (Cameron Wake) on one side and a 23 year old future Pro Bowl pass rusher (Olivier Vernon) on the other side. So what does Ireland do? He drafts a pass rusher - Dion Jordan who had a torn labrum and drugg issues. The Eagles then draft an OT - 6X Pro Bowler Lane Johnson who just finished his 13th season - all with the Eagles. Jordan played 63 games over 8 seasons - 2 of which he didn't play at all because of drug suspensions.

Ireland is also the idiot that asked Dez Bryant if his mother was a prositite at the NFL Combine and told Richie Incognito to punch Jonathan Martin to start the Bullygate fiasco.
Since he played at Troy, he's a Trojan too.
Yet I can name 50 players on the 1982 LSU team that beat Alabama team 20-10 in Birmingham. I also remember Bear Bryant saying it was the worst physical beating his team had taken in years and promptly announcing he would retire at the end of the season.

I must be a medical oddity? Or maybe Norwegians consume too much a vodka affecting their long-term memory?

2019 LSU was preseason #6. As of week 4 they were +1200 to win the national championship. LINK As of week 4 this year Indiana was +10,000 LINK

Here’s a news flash. Voters are clueless until teams play quality opponents. This year, Texas was pre-season #1. They lost 3 games and missed the CFP. Penn State was #2. Clemson was #4. LSU was #8. They all lost 6 games. Indiana opened the season Indiana was pre-season ranked in the top 20, fell in the rankings after struggling against Old Dominion and didn’t beat a quality opponent until week 4.

what freshman or sophomore QBs have won anything of note in the College Football playoff era?

Leavitt led ASU to the playoffs as a sophomore. So did Tua, Fields, Bryce, Young, JJ McCarthy…..

Fromm and Jalen Hurts led their teams to the NC game as freshman. Trevor Lawrence and Jameis Winston won NC’s as freshman.

what they have done dismantling expensive blue blood rosters is the most impressive thing I’ve seen in college football.

First off, Oregon isn’t a blue blood. But in your defense, Ohio State, 4-loss Alabama and 6-loss Penn State are. Congrats to Indiana on their success agains the “blue bloods”. Indiana has beaten 2 teams (Oregon twice) that finished in the top 8 by a total of 47 points (in 3 games). They won their conference championship game by 3 points. The best QB’s they beat were QB’s Dante Moore, Drew Allar, Julian Sayin and Ty Simpson.

2019 LSU beat 5 of the Top 8 teams plus blue blood Texas. They won those games by a total of 98 points. They won their conference championship game by 27 points. The QB’s they beat were Jordan Love, Kyle Trask, Bo Nix, Tua Tagaviola, Jalen Hurts and Trevor Lawrence.
I was there. Freshman Greg Allen's coming out party with over 200 yards rushing - an FSU record.

The dude had to smoke a shitload of weed to survive the bad case of Panthers Derangement Syndrome he came down with during last year's Stanley Cup Playoffs.
It must drive liberal academia insane to watch the billionaire capitalist grandson of Ukrainaian immigrants write a check on behalf of a university to pay one player with little interest in learning anything more less get a degree, more money to play a game than a department full of physics PhD's do to teach.

Moore may not declare if he's offered the same money in NIL than a first year rookie contract.

Every mock draft has Moore going #1 or #2. That's predicted to be $53-55 million. #5 is projected to be $46 million. I'd love to see Phil Knight try to outbid the NFL.

Hope so, but I think it will take a few more years to sort this out. Might even require federal legislation.

Federal lawmakers - taking messes created by lawyers and fricking them up even more since 1776.

If we are winning next year, the only thing that will change is that the hate will be turned up a notch.

I think we need some more threads on this gay topic.

Welcome to the 2026 offseason. It’s just getting started.

worth every penny if they are good.

I can’t believe that this is what college athletics has become. I wonder if SCOTUS contemplated the Pandora’s Box they would open when they ruled on the NCAA NIL case. And we are just getting started.

The difference is, Alabama was the #9 team losing to the #1 team, not the #2 team losing to the #10 team.

Really? That’s the difference? I must have missed the comparison to Ohio State. I watched both games and the difference to me was that one team was involved in a 3 point game with a minute left and one team lost by 5 Touchdowns.
Go watch Berry and Durham’s high school highlights and ask yourself if not being able to find and hit a hole is some bad habit they all of a sudden developed at the college level.

Weiss isn’t a Dan Lanning who apprenticed for years at UGA with Smart and spent some time at Bama with Saban. I respect Lane and all, but he’s not Nick Saban.

Lanning spent 1 year as a GA at Bama under Saban. Weis was an offensive assistant under his father, Saban, Sark and Kiffin before being an OC under Kiffin. Weis actually has 5 more years experience as a coordinator than Lanning had
Imagine offering to pay a coach twice as much as your playoff winning coach and he says, “Nah, I’m good” as he sets off to coach your hated rival while poaching half the staff.
The last time Texas A&M Won a national championship my father was 3 years old. Next month he will turn 90.
