I'm watching my very favorite musician of all time. Got to chatting with the merch guy and he gave me a backstage wristband on the condition that I find the band somewhere awesome to eat tomorrow in Shreveport. They have a day off there on the way to Birmingham and I want to send them somewhere awesome.

Place will look like a dive when you see it, but The Cub is the place to go.

Lunch or dinner?

I would agree with The Cub, and also offer 2John's, Bistro Byronz (laid back and very reasonable), Oyster Bar, Noble Savage (Dinner only), Blind Tiger.

You need to give more details... Lunch or dinner? $$ or $$$$$? I think Chianti is top notch and one of my favorites for dinner, plus it has a great wine bar next door to spill into after.

Superior Steakhouse or The Village are awesome for steaks. Guiseppe's is another sure fire winner for dinner. Lunch I am no help with though. All that being said, the Cub has great food but lacks in the high-end atmosphere department. It's all a matter of where you want them to go and what kind of experience they are looking for.

Probably not the kind of place you want to take out of town guests to. It's in SW S'port and it's an old Pizza Inn. Still looks the same.

I'd go to Ernests for atmosphere and food.

What musician are you watching?

+1

Also, I know I'm in the minority, but the Cub is vastly overrated. What kind of atmosphere/food do they want? Try Superior Bar and Grill

Thanks for the suggestions! They decided to go with the Blind Tiger since it's close to their hotel.

And the musician is Matt Nathanson. He's amazing.

From MN's Wiki entry:
quote:

Matt Nathanson was born and brought up by his parents. They made sure he was supplied with guitars and rarely let him come home from boarding school and summer camp. This had a big impact on his music.

Heh. MN's playing at Workplay in BHM tonight with Scars on 45. Good bands at a great venue.

Blind Tiger is my favorite from the past year I spent working up there. You can have really good food, anything from sandwich, beans & rice, to seafood, with a laidback, fun atmosphere.

The fried catfish is excellent.

Superior Grill is a really fun atmosphere Thurs-Sat, however, the food is definitely not worth the price, in my opinion.

Yeah, Scars on 45 opened for him at La Zona too. I had never heard of them but they were pretty good.

Not only is Matt an incredible lyricist and beautiful songwriter, but he's absolutely hilarious, so his shows are half music, half stand-up comedy. Such a good time.

should have gone to Noble Savage. it's right down the street and has a better menu, IMO.

Blint Tiger is a good joint, but they oversalt most of their dishes.

glad they had a good time though in Shreve.

ETA: Boogie, your buddy was interviewed this afternoon on a Birmingham station LINK

Interesting interview. I especially liked the story about the weird restaurant that some joker told them to hit in Shreveport last night.
