As far as fans are concerned, he's neck and neck with Sumlin for the lead. I think Sumlin will get the hire though. Don't know how I feel about either.

Recruiting is king. Bring in a guy that at least knows the state well enough and you'll be good.

You have to be a buttfricking retard to not field a Top 10 class at A&M...however we keep hiring them. Smart is my #1 choice, Strong is my number 2. After that...ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I think the general consensus amongst most fans is Smart as the #1 choice. The Sumlin crowd is split 50/50. Some want him badly and others want him to stay away. I personally do not want Sumlin. I want defense defense defense. I could care less about 9 passing TDs in one game or whatever the heck Keenum did this year. Unfortunately, from the mods on multiple pay sites, the feeling is Sumlin is the guy.
