We are recruiting the beef as well. We have four 4* DTs committed for 2013. We have four athletic and big OL committed. We have something like 5 LBs committed and still trying to land the stud ILB from Hawaii who we lead for.
I completely agree on the premise that only recruiting skill position players turns you into Arkansas the last few seasons. I think however that we will have that skill position talent of Arkansas with the athleticism and beef necessary to compete in the front 7 on defense and continue to have a dominant OL

Go to a restaurant east of campus called Fuego. Get a Juan Pablo. You won't regret it! It is the best taco I've ever had. They have absolutely any type of taco you can imagine. May not sound all that great on a message board, but it won't disappoint. My favorite bars on northgate are paddock, mad hatters, and cedar lane. Hope you enjoy it!
Favorite bars are cedar lane and obannons. Grab some shots at the tipsy turtle. Madhatters is pretty good as well.
Best pecan pie ive ever had is at church street on northgate.
Get some incredible tacos at Fuego. Open 24 hours so go hit it up after northgate. It's always packed after the bars close.

Prevot likes LSU and Texas. He is visiting us soon though. Maybe this weekend. Really hope the staff makes a good impression on him
Manning is keeping things close to the vest. Not likely to be an Aggie IMO
Claiborne has the Ags #1 right now. LSU is slow playing

MLB talent isn't too thin, at least in regards to having the Ags on top. Both Chad Whitener and R Chevis would commit on the spot if offered. I like Chevis the most, then Whitener, then Mastro. Not sure with the Mastro offer and not Chevis

Warrick was told on Saturday he would know within 48 hours if he would receive an offer. He has not heard anything yet. Take that at face value but it is interesting he wasn't offered and may not be offered moving forward
Me likes da womens. Eye candy = good
Didn't know that DW, thanks for the info. All of our mods are staying really quiet on the Jamar Gibson front as well. Never a good sign

I agree some are reaches. Namely Johnny Jefferson and Wiggins. Other than those two I really like all the guys we have committed.
It should be noted Derrick Griffin is a huge grade risk. He is currently ineligible for basketball this season due to grades. He needs to get a lot of work in the classroom done before he can think about qualifying

His father played at A&M. I hope we offer but I am not sure if he is reciprocating any interest. Film I have seen looks good. Kid is big that's for sure

I'm shocked he committed today. Had heard nothing about him even liking us. If LSU comes calling it will be very tough to keep him. His mom did say she was really happy he would be so close to home. I Ags can just hope he's a mommas boy

Hamm from 247 knows his bread a butter is all recruiting. Honestly his info with the coaching hires was subpar, but he kills it in recruiting. Go take a free trial

Ha it was actually a weird situation. These three skyline kids showed up to our facilities for our junior day. Well the kids got the weekends mixed up. The junior day isn't until next weekend. So these kids showed up and our coaches had no clue. Our coaches were able to have a makeshift junior day for these guys and were able to secure a commitment from Huggins. That's really refreshing compared to our old staff. That was the reason for some confusion among the recruiting sites though. Hamm from gigem247 has the best recruiting info and we know within minutes of the commitment if it happened
All the kid has done since last summer is talk up the SEC and how he wants to stuff run the meet RBs head on. Said he wanted to play in the SEC and only the SEC cause that's what most resembles the NFL
Now the kid is going to the Big XII to drop into coverage and protect against the pass 50+ times per game. It just doesn't make any sense. And yes Texas will likely turn this kid into a DE. I would love to have him as a MLB in the SEC but he has been one mixed ball of drama. Hate to say it but this kid fits in perfectly with his soon to be teammates in Austin. Pre Madonna all the way

re: Can an Aggie explain to me exactly what the plan is for the stadium expansion?
Posted by zachcopp on 1/26/12 at 11:41 pm to Monticello
We currently have three separate parts of the stadium. We have the east stands, the west stands, and the north end zone. The east and west stands are each three decks. The third deck was erected in the 70s I believe. The north end zone was erected in the late 90s.
The original plan (pre sec) was to actually reduce the seating capacity. However, that plan has obviously changed. The new stadium will now be 100,000 plus but not 115,000. The stadium as it sits is out of code. The problem is, the second you fix one thing to bring up to code, all code issues must be fixed at that point in time which is why we haven't begun to fix issues. There are bats in the stadium and they are annoying as hell. They smell too. At sunset you can often see them flying out of the stadium by the thousands. To my knowledge they are protected by some dumb animal law so we cannot take the means necessary to remove them.
Currently, the students are given the option to purchase a sports pass. The students always have had and always will have premium seating on the east side of the field. They occupy 90% of the east stands. However, this kills our revenue for ticket sales. As it sits, we have very few luxury suites as well. This will be a main focus of the new stadium is to drastically increase the number of suites available to increase revenue by a considerable margin.
We are about to begin a 6 month study to discuss all and diagnose all options available to us. IMO the two feasible options are to tear down both the east and west stands simultaneously and play ONE season in reliant stadium in Houston. We will not be misplaced from Kyle Field for more than a year. The other option is to have Kyle Field under construction for 3 or 4 years and do the upgrades piece by piece as to not have to play a season away at Reliant. This could consist of erecting a south end zone, then tearing down the west side and rebuilding it, then tearing down the east side and rebuilding it.
There is also serious talk about tearing things down to just the base structure and trying to salvage some. I for one do not like this idea. Tear it down and build it right
So the basics are we will not be away from Kyle for more than one season regardless which decision is made. The plan is to be just north of 100,000 in capacity. Construction will begin at the earliest following the 2013 season.
People will bitch and moan regardless which decision is made. Hopefully our decision makers are not swayed by that and do this right. One season away from Kyle at Reliant for an incredible stadium for 50 to 69 years into the future is well worth it IMO. We are in the position we are in now because the decision makers who have been in control of Kyle the last 40 years didn't think far enough ahead

Ha definitely took the bait. Barring a major shock, Trey will be an Aggie. He is one of the moat explosive playmakers at the position I've seen in a while. Hope like hell we hold onto him
Funny cause most Aggies, including mods from recruiting sites, feel like Dalton will do anything to not be an Aggie. Many Aggie fans are sick of his wishy wash dramatic attitude which us understandable. However, he feels a huge need thy our previous staff failed to ever address. I will take this kid any day of the week. That being said I feel like it will either be UT or Arkansas
A&M is in dire need of a MLB. That being said, this kid has tried everything he can to not be an Aggie. He is visiting though so hopefully we can wrap him up but I am not banking on it. He is a bit of a drama queen but a talent nonetheless

Trey recently cancelled his visit to Oklahoma state. He is visiting Arkansas this weekend though. I think momma wants him close to home so a trip to florid may just be for a free trip.
Sumlin was already selling the DL and SEC bit to kids this weekend. He has a presentation of sorts showing how many DL the SEC puts in the NFL compared to other conferences

Hope your right. All the DL talent in state flocks to The Longhorns no matter what regardless of depth. Sumlin needs to establish a change in momentum and win some head to head recruiting battles for DL with the longhorns. If not, we are in trouble

Julien Obioha will be SDE. Likely that Alonzo Williams will move to DT (probably 3 tech). Mike Richardson talked with Snyder and they plan on using him as a WDE as well as a rush linebacker. Tyrone Taylor will grow into a WDE, but it will take a few years. He is 6'5" about 205lbs right now. Same with his brother Tyrell.
A&M hasn't landed a single DT the last two years. Sherman couldn't recruit DT or ILB to save his life. Texas is loaded at DT talent next year which is rare. We need to load up. Take two or three as well as two December Juco DL. We are so thin on the inside of the front seven. This will be our biggest struggle the first few years IMO

Posted by zachcopp on 1/13/12 at 2:44 am to ShaneTheLegLechler
Kohl is a stud. Has a cannon arm. His fastball was low 90s as a sophomore though. If he continues to improve there is a good chance he could get drafted out of high school and not play CFB unless he doesn't cut it in the pros and pulls a Weeden
There are a number of good places to eat.
Koppe Bridge for some really good hamburgers, chicken fried steak, etc.
Fuego for some incredible tacos, other interesting food choices. They have this white queso that's honestly to die for. They are also open 24 hours so it's a good place to hit after the bars close
Best BBQ in town IMO is CJs BBQ. Rudys is fairly good as well
Awesome Mexican food at Chuys
Northgate is pretty fun. Number of good bars. Dixie chicken, Obannons, Paddocks, Fitzwillys are all fun bars on northgate. There's a lot more but those are the ones I usually stick with. As was said northgate is right across the street from the northside of campus. Stadium is on the southside, but many walk there after games. Only about a 10 minute walk.
There is a free shuttle service from the mall to the games. Mall is a dump FYI. Don't waste your time there. There is more free parking close to campus and the stadium but you have to be familiar with the town to know where those are.
If your into history, the george bush library on the west side of campus might be worth a visit.
Kyle Field is a special place. The three decks on the east side of the stadium are for the students. We can fit around 30,000 students on that side. Students stand the entire game. The zone which is on the north side of the stadium and the west side is likely where you tigers will be able to get tickets. Kyle field is very old and outdated. We hope to begin construction after the 2013 season to renovate the stadium and turn it into a top venue aesthetically in the country. We had a number of 11am games this season. Those games suck. No energy in the stadium. As was said, many don't understand us Aggies and think we are weird. If you can get past all that and just come in with an open mind I think you will be able to enjoy the atmosphere and appreciate the gameday experience. A night game against the tigers will provide for an extremely loud and electric Kyle Field. It'll be a rough few years as we adjust to the quality of play and athletes in the SEC, but we look forward to hosting the elite teams in CFB here in college station. Here's to hoping we somehow beat the everliving hell out of the tigers next season at Kyle Field!
You'll find most Ags are pretty friendly. Show up early and come join in on our tailgates. We need you guys to teach us how it's done haha. Be patient, we will learn. Spence park and the area around Reed arena are the prime tailgating areas.

re: Official: Sumlin to Texas A&M (near enough)

I hate this hire as well. I hope and pray he hires an OC that implements a run first offense that runs out of power formations. If I see a 4 or 5 wide set and running out of the shotgun I will feel even more defeated than I do now
Most likely Sumlin. Do not want... Hello pass happy offense, hello no defense. Our leaders know next to nothing about football
Do not want Sumlin. Complete lateral move from Sherman. Give me a defensive minded guy please. I want Strong, However, that is extremely unlikely at this point
re: Charlie Strong Showed Interest In Texas AM Job
Posted by zachcopp on 12/8/11 at 1:14 am to pioneerbasketball
Our administration wanted to interview Strong. We called the Louisville AD to ask for permission to speak with him and we were given a polite no. The AD was not cooperating, and I do not think we wanted to hire him without an interview. So, I believe we moved on. I fear we will hire Sumlin, or as some have named him Shermlin. Sherman part two here we come. Crossing me fingers for someone else. I was much higher on Fedora than I am Sumlin
re: Dr. Loftin Has to be Thinking BIG
Posted by zachcopp on 12/7/11 at 12:13 pm to CavalryAg07
I am thinking its sumlin. Gosh what a sh** show Texas A&M football is. Why is it that fans can see what our leaders cannot? Talk about a lateral move from Sherman to Sumlin. Also hearing Sumlin will keep his offensive staff from UH and keep our defensive staff. What a joke. A mediocre coach with a mediocre staff. Guess we like getting
by every team we play. Nothing changes and it is frustrating as hell
re: A&M, are you going to screw up our chances on Smart?
Posted by zachcopp on 12/3/11 at 2:21 am to LegacyAggie
I think the general consensus amongst most fans is Smart as the #1 choice. The Sumlin crowd is split 50/50. Some want him badly and others want him to stay away. I personally do not want Sumlin. I want defense defense defense. I could care less about 9 passing TDs in one game or whatever the heck Keenum did this year. Unfortunately, from the mods on multiple pay sites, the feeling is Sumlin is the guy.
Smart and Strong need to be interviewed regardless IMO
