Neither am I...his reputation will condemn him, but I don't think it was malicious.

Name me one time that someone was falling and naturally stuck their leg BACKWARDS? I wasn't convinced until that. It just doesn't happen. Mario being Mario.

figured that would be the response I would get. In most stamping cases that get suspensions after the fact you see the offender look at the person he stomps immediately before or after he makes the offense. Also, intentional stomping is usually done after the play, away from the ball, with the offender in an upright and balanced position.
In the swag man's case, he appears to be losing his balance and places his right leg behind himself to catch his fall. He doesn't look at parker before or after the incident. Maybe you guys are right and he meant to do it, but this doesn't seem to be nearly as intentional as rooney's elbow from last year that escaped retroactive punishment. see youtube for actual offense
The FA ruled that since the referee dealt with rooney's incident on the field (a FK) the FA could not ban him. unfortunately Mario will probably be given the full suspension even though it happened right in front of the ref and play stopped to deal with the injury.

I think he meant to stomp on him, but didn't know his head was right there.
But if you think he was just trying to catch himself:

Me either. He's falling and it seems like he just stuck his leg out. He's not looking back while doing it.
He may have meant it, it just doesn't seem as clear cut to me as everyone's making it out to be.

my sentiment exactly. he may get a suspension based on reputation, but to me the offense was much more innocent than the rooney elbow. Of course, everyone quickly forgot about the rooney incident and the media covered it very lightly. Why always him indeed.

Personally, I don't think there's enough there to go back and ban him.

At the very least I don't think he was aiming for the head.. but we'll never know.

That's in large part what makes me fairly certain that he did it on purpose. Maybe didn't aim for the head, but I mean, c'mon, your body's instincts don't tell you to catch your balance by working against momentum.
