Pepi broke both bones in his forearm in an awkward fall as he scored today LINK

As a skeletally mature adult the treatment for this is an open reduction and internal fixation with plates on both forearms. I ran this one past a surgical colleague (hand and wrist surgeon, which includes elbows) and they said the following:

Average recovery/return to sports is 3 months. With pro athletes this is very dependent on circumstances. In a highly motivated athlete you could have him back in 8 weeks in a brace if he’s willing to accept some risk. Forearm plates are very strong. Knowing it’s a World Cup year some more agressive surgeons may let the patient play shortly after surgery with a custom brace and a thorough discussion of the risks and understanding by the patient.

Cancer isn't a lifestyle choice, typically, while obesity is.

You’re not wrong. That said, obesity increases cancer risk.

From OpenEvidence:

Excess body weight is conclusively associated with an increased risk of developing 13 types of cancer according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).[1][2][3] In 2019, an estimated 5% of cancer cases in males and 11% in females were attributable to excess body weight.[1]

The 13 cancers with sufficient evidence for a causal association with obesity include: endometrial cancer (uterine corpus), esophageal adenocarcinoma, liver cancer, gastric cardia cancer, kidney cancer (renal cell), meningioma, multiple myeloma, pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, gallbladder cancer, ovarian cancer, postmenopausal breast cancer, and thyroid cancer.[1][4][2][3] Additionally, excess body weight may also increase the risk of cancers of the mouth, pharynx, larynx, non-Hodgkin lymphoma (diffuse large B-cell lymphoma), male breast cancer, and fatal prostate cancer.[1][5]

The magnitude of risk varies substantially by cancer type. For each 5 kg/m² increase in BMI, the risk increase ranges from 9% for rectal cancer in men to 56% for biliary tract system cancer.[6] Endometrial cancer shows particularly strong associations, with relative risks of approximately 7.1 for class 3 obesity compared to normal BMI.[2] Among those with BMI =40, mortality from all causes of cancer was 52% higher in men and 62% higher in women compared to those with normal BMI.[7]

The mechanisms linking obesity to cancer include chronic inflammation, altered adipokine secretion (elevated leptin, reduced adiponectin), insulin resistance, oxidative stress, immune dysregulation, and gut microbiome alterations.[8][9] The proportion of cancer cases attributable to excess body weight varies by cancer type—for example, 53% of endometrial cancer cases versus 4% of ovarian cancer cases.[1] Importantly, even modest sustained weight loss can reduce breast cancer risk among postmenopausal women not using hormone replacement therapy.[1]
So when are we going to stop paying for people on food stamps to eat processed junk foods and sodas? We pay for this crap and then pay for the medical costs of obesity.

He just got sacked

Twas a good run and he shall be missed, just as we miss Ten Hag, Moyes, and every manager since sir Alex.
Sebastian Soto retired. Long time coming but still surprised to see how poorly his career panned out, along with guys like Uly Llanez and Alex Mendez.

Cole Campbell is going on loan to Hoffenheim with a purchase option.
Looks like just a foot lac and he might be able to play this weekend.
This might be the most impressive game I’ve seen of McKennie’s. Just so intelligent with his passing, movement, possession etc. The assist is obscene (but didn’t count). He’s also sneaky technical.

I looked at the vid of the injury and honestly it doesn’t look bad, frankly I would guess grade 1 sprain with a 6 week PT recovery. Basically stretched, not torn. He wasn’t planted and the mechanism was kind of him pulling out of a kick and the opposing player kicking through his extended leg, torquing the knee. I would be a bit surprised if he tore it completely that way.
quote:

The real problem with him is that he cannot generate chances for himself. Completely reliant on service, and he is often not in the right place when he needs to be.

When was the last time we had a forward who did this? Wolcott?

Quote from Arteta after the game yesterday:

After the wolves game, regarding Gyokeres needing to contribute more whilst also requiring service, Arteta said: "It's a collaboration between the two. He was in a lot of really good positions and the ball didn't get into the area quick enough, sharp enough or just with the precision that is required for a No.9 to score the goal. But his work rate and intentions were there and we need to keep insisting."
For real. I can’t wait to come back to these posts later and see how poorly they’ve aged. Give me your downvotes, they only validate me more

People saying (before the half way mark) that we should get rid of him at the end of his first season? frick outta here

Prime example of not knowing ball, as the kids say.

But my words don’t do it justice, so here’s an article from the BBC: Why Gyokeres offers more than just goals to Arsenal

quote:

Arteta believes the 27-year-old makes the Gunners "a much better team", explaining his signing has made them "much more unpredictable", pinpointing his athleticism and work-rate as stand-out attributes.

"He's so physical and the way he presses the ball, and holds the ball, that's phenomenal," the Spaniard said after the victory in the Champions League.

Arteta's view that Gyokeres offers more than just goals is supported by the data, particularly when it comes to winning the ball back in advanced positions.

Gyokeres ranks top in the Premier League for applying 'high pressure' in the final third (defined by Opta as getting within 2m of an opponent), recording 199 such actions.

He likewise leads the way in high pressures applied in the opposition penalty area.

To those saying he doesn’t fit how we want to play, Mikel apparently thinks otherwise, and the statistics validate him.

He makes more off-ball runs into the opposition box than any other forward in the league. The goals will come when our midfielders start to find him more often, but judging him now solely based on his goal output is missing the forest for the trees.
I find it wild that people here are dogpiling on Gyokeres after less than half a season. Who are we, Chelsea fans? When he’s been healthy he’s been an absolute bear for opposing CBs to deal with and has completely opened up our wing play for the better. He hasn’t had a consistent run of games, has dealt with injuries, and is adapting to a new team and a new league. People wanted to cut bait from Havertz before he came good, and I’ve even seen similar sentiment about Noni on Reddit lately (before the club Brugge game at least). The man dropped a hat trick on city in the CL FFS. Give him time.
quote:

just don’t think Gyokeres is good enough for the level we need and never will be. I’m just curious to see if and when they cut their losses.

This seems premature
So basically semi final is highly highly unlikely lol

It’s going to be really fun to watch this team when everyone is healthy.

Dream on
Adams just scored from half field lol
Private equity is buying up doctors’ practices, hospitals, ER and hospitalist groups, and now moving into anesthesia as well. They are locusts that worsen everything they touch. HCA hospitals are a prime example of everything wrong with PE in healthcare.

That sarcastic gesture towards the ref at the end of that video will never not make me laugh
United losing at home to Everton despite having a man advantage for 80 minutes is the icing on the cake of a fantastic weekend lol
This is a great edit about Bielsa telling Olivera to leave MLS because it was “stunting his growth.”

This is a really awful lineup

I genuinely love how poorly this aged

If they are even competitive with this lineup I will be pleased.
