Why is Mo Claiborne's Wonderlic being released a big deal?

Polian says it's "despicable" and "sickening"
back when i used to follow the draft, EVERY player's wonderlic got out and was public knowledge
his 4 is a huge
(esp with so many LSU fans who hated on Vince)
his score getting out isn't a big deal at all

I said it in another thread already but I'm still trying to understand all this. If Claiborne can dress himself and defend passes I give zero fricks how book smart the guy is. Not sure what the deal is here. We aren't asking him to solve world problems and think. He is a football player.

I don't know. ESPN wants you to care

there is no such thing as "book smart" bro
there may be different sorts of intelligence, but "book smart" is a myth
a 4 on the wonderlic is dogshit terrible. the failure is with his agent (for not preparing him for the wonderlic). i know the guy isn't as dumb as his score indicates b/c a 4 means that you're retarded, and i've heard him speak in complete sentences

Eh, my point is that the wonderlic is probably helpful for gauging quarterbacks. But I don't see the use in testing a corner back. Corner backs rely on instinct and ball skills. That isn't testable material.

The bigger issue is that he probably can't read

i am wondering that myself
and not because of a learning disability, per se
i think skyler had the old record for wonderlic (i think he got a 6) and i really don't know if he could read that well (i had a class with him)

People have said, the majority of the Wonderlic comes down to "can you read and follow instructions" - quickly.
He obviously has problems reading with his disability.
I'm not saying this is a huge red flag...but the Pro game isn't just reacting on the field.
I don't know how far his dyslexia affects his ability in the Pro classroom - reading and digesting the playbook.

unless they are in a complex defense that incorporates a lot of different zones and man-zones

Would you say that performance on the wonderlic can project your ability to adapt to different defenses?
His performance in college should be good enough to show that adapting to defensive schemes isn't a problem for him IMO.

Him being illiterate or horribly dyslexic is basically the only way to score that poorly, especially when he seems perfectly normal otherwise

He has a disablity, I don't think he really could have prepared him for it. What was stupid was even letting him take the test.

because LSU, who runs almost exclusive man, runs complex coverages?

i remember reading about nate davis a few years ago. i think he scored an 11 and the 49ers or whoever drafted him were trying to simplify the shite out of things for him using pictures and stuff.
i also knew a guy growing up that had some legitimate reading disorder where he said it felt like the words would jump off the paper and attack his eyeballs. guy had to take oral exams and special classes.

I would trade my reading abilities for the lifestyle he is fixing to have if he wants

pretty much. pretty sure you could just put B for every answer and you'd get a 10 or so

assuming he would have this opinion because whoever leaked it would likely have knowledge of the apparent learning disability.
the only reason to leak something like this is to hurt a players stock so he falls far enough for your team to pick him. that or they did it as a "haha look at this idiots score", which is even worse.
in both of those cases it is sickening.

that doesn't explain a 4
i think 8 is the cutoff for mental retardation

if his agent couldn't prep him for a simple test then there is no way mo claiborne did his own work at LSU. and i don't say this to rip on the kid. it's reps, like football. you take 40 wonderlics and have somebody go over the shite with you. agents do this every year

everyone takes it

dude, pretty much everyone's wonderlic will get out eventually. there doesn't have to be malice

that's probably it, if i had to guess
