Im looking to take my wife and kids fishing in Galveston. I wouldn't mind chartering but I think my kids may be a little young to spend a long day on a boat tossing around in choppy water. Does anyone know of a good public place to pier fish in Galveston? I would like to spend a few days there with the family and fishing is what I'd really like to do the most. Thanks in advance oh great outdoor board.

61 st street pier I believe is reopened. It was the one during Ike where the idiot owners tried to ride it out in their upstairs portion of the piers store.

Also, there was a pier out past San Luis Pass. Ike may have taken it out though?

When I go out into the Gulf, there are a lot of people fishing the jetty. It is rocky and I am thinking it would not be safe for small kids. You can likely charter a boat to take you right there off the jetty and fish. It would not be far out and kids would catch fish while being close to shore. I don't see many people having luck on the beach fishing the surf.

I don't know if the 61st pier mentioned earlier is open. I know it was being worked on this year. There are some back water places to fish if you take 61st/342 back toward I-45. I see people there a lot fishing in the backwater. I would also try the East Beach beside the seawall/jetty. Look at Google Maps or something similiar and you can see the areas.
