Big step for COMNEBOL unification possibly, but mostly awesome that we're hosting a tournament.

Saw this earlier, can't wait. Now I just hope that there are some matches close enough for me to attend.

Also.. they're still having a normal Copa America in Chile in 2015.. but the US edition is a special 100th anniversary of South American football edition.. oddly enough

I have read it's more a proposed Pan American tournament and not the Copa America.

I really hope there are a lot of Southern locations so I can catch some games.

When I first saw this thread I thought why would we be hosting it if it's not sure thing that we will be joining but I then read the article and saw why. Still really cool for us plus who knows what will happen by 2016, hell we could be world cup champions by then.

You're right, it's by God July 4th, i'll have some of that kool-aid too.
I better book my flight to Brazil, sounds like i'm gonna be in for one hell of a show.

If it's not the real Copa America, will everyone still send their A team?

So what effect would unification have? Here are my guesses:
-Our eight combined WC spots would be bumped to nine.
-The chance of US/Mexico qualification would drop from ~95% to ~80%.
-The chance of second-tier CONCACAF teams qualifying (Honduras/Costa Rica/Canada/Jamaica) would drop from ~30% to ~10%.
-The chance of third-tier South America teams (Colombia/Chile/Ecuador) qualifying would jump from ~40% to ~60% (less for Ecuador).
-The more frequent competitive matchups against Brazil and Argentina would lead to more interest in the US.
-The 16 team Copa America idea would be adopted. It would be moved to same schedule as Euros, with qualification taking place in the year between the WC and CA.

Me no gusta.
I don't understand why we can't keep it the same, yet still have the euro-esq tourney every 4 years for the "Americas"
