New Orleans Poboy & Gyros (Coursey)

At the suggestion of advice from this board, I went today for lunch. It was OK. Had the roast beef poboy, and the Philly cheese steak. The best thing was the bread. Being from PA, the cheesesteak was very average, IMO. I was pretty disappointed in the roast beef, since it was Manda. Doubt I'll be back. Still haven't found a poboy in BR that I'd go out of my way for, and I've had em all, pretty much.

Had the roast beef poboy and gumbo there and both were too salty. Onion rings were ok. Shrimp poboy ok too but i haven't been in a rush to go back.

Their chicken gyro's are one of my staples

If you haven't tried it yet, a few blocks up is South of Philly where you probably should have gone for a cheese steak.
NO Poboy does do a decent oyster poboy and has very tasty baklava. This lunch is no slouch.
One time I mistakenly ended up with a roast beef sandwich to go, and I also found it too salty, and the sauce obliterated the bread. I had to finish it with a fork.

I have been to South of Philly. It was pretty good, but a little expensive, from what I remember. The reason I went to New Orleans Poboy, and the reason why I ordered those specific sandwiches, was due to posts on here stating that they were the best.

Is it on Sherwood? At I-12? Close to Cane's?

Ahhh, there's a poboy place on Sherwood across from Ponuh's, at 12 that's decent.

I don't remember if there's a motel there or not. Usually too busy trying to get on/off the interstate without getting in a wreck.

I hate that you saw someone post that. I've never read anything but bad things about their roast beef from what I recall.
As far as shrimp poboys go, Tommy's has a pretty good one but it's way out in Prairieville and the shrimp need to be a bit better seasoned IMO.

If you didn't care for it, I'm one of the people who have touted it over the years, sorry about that. I have always enjoyed their food, especially the philly's, beef, chicken or shrimp.
If we all liked the same places, they'd be too crowded to enjoy. NOPB is a favorite at my place of business, they guys frequently order sandwiches from there.

No, the few times I've been, it's been good.

It's on Coursey, in a little shopping center, not Sherwood.
The owner was very friendly, I'll give him that. The Greek food that some other customers were eating looked good. I just didn't think the poboys were nearly as good as other posters have stated, especially the roast beef.

Poboys for some reason in Baton Rouge suck. I don't understand why it is so hard to get a good one here, but it is.

I never, even at Pocorello's, order an RB PB in BR. The places that don't use Manda's still screw it up.
There are lots of excellent PB's in BR, just not RB. Pokies meatball with eggplant is a wonder of nature.

I'll throw this out there for you, Rocco's. Their roast beef is pretty good, but I really like their hot sausage patty poboy.
Have you tried this place?
