Kayaking groups around BR, south LA

Just bought a kayak a few months ago. I've been exploring some of the waters around BR. Would be more fun going with other people. I've found Bayou Haystackers in BR and Pack and Paddle in Lafayette, but haven't tried them yet. Any recommendations?

And while we're on the subject, besides the LSU lakes, where are some good spots to sort of "practice" loading and unloading, etc. around Baton Rouge?

The Bayou Coast Kayak Fishing Club covers all S. La fishing from kayaks. The Lafayette KFC covers south central and west La, and is very much affliated with Pack & Paddle. Many folks belong to both clubs, and fish in each other's tournaments. There was also a Ponchartrain Basin KFC, but not sure is that is still viable.
Pack & Paddle in Laffy and The Backpacker in BR both offer paddling trips at a decent price.
Bayou Haystackers is more paddling, and less fishing oriented, so if not into fishing, may be the group for you.

what size kayak do you have? mine is an 8 foot, so i'm able to load and unload it easily.

i've paddled bayou plaquemine from the locks to the intracoastal waterway. i'd like to launch at Morley's and paddle up Choctaw Bayou to the Hwy. 76 bridge one day.

I've done that paddle a lot. A bunch of gators around sunset and after dark. Have had them rise to the surface just as I was passing by and hit them with my paddle. Would scare us both.
After dark one night there must have been 20-30 in a fifty yard stretch. Started training at night in the intracoastal after that .....

i've seen some gators out there, but none have come close enough for me to hit them with my paddle. they usually get scared and swim away from me.
