Has anyone else seen this film? I went and saw it at the sundance theater last week. It was one of the best documentaries I've seen in the past two years. Movie gives a great perspective from ex-seaworld trainers and victims of how the industry actually functions. It also gives a good story of the history behind the killer whale entertainment industry. I bet it wins doc. of the year. SIAP. trailer

saw it in Baton Rouge last weekend (not sure if its still showing because only one other person was in the theater which is typical of Baton Rouge movie goers for films like this).

excellent documentary. I can remember reading all of the details a few years ago about the Dawn Brancheau tragedy and it really struck a nerve with me how Sea World attempted to blame her. horrible what happened to that woman.

The killa whale is used to being and roaming in a sea. it's called Freedom. When forced to stay in a 40x60 box and do shows all day. Bad things will happen.

There is another movie called The Cove that you might be interested in. A little more extreme but eye-opening. Just throwing it out there...

this video is one of the incidents that was featured in Blackfish from Sea World San Diego a few years ago. it's a 15 minute, uncut video of a whale dragging an experienced trainer around by his foot and holding him underwater several times for 1-2 minutes each time at depths of 40 feet. they said the only reason this trainer survived is because he kept his cool and was an avid scuba diver and could hold his breath for upwards of 2 minutes. of course Sea World attempted to blame him as usual.

(the part at the end when he finally escapes and the whale comes back at him is freaky)

Sea World was refused the right to capture Orcas in AK waters in the 1980's. This film has brought out some of the old allies in that fight.

In between this and the Sand Snake thread on the OT today, these threads makes me realize how much of a nerd I am.

As far as I know, there isn't a single theater in my area showing it, otherwise I'd go see it.

Hopefully it's release to netflix and redbox soon...

Too many pussies in that thread, though, Psych. I'm just staying away until I catch up with the readers. It's not your fault - you're a rock.

(This fricking movie has generated about 3 of these I always bite on - like an Alzheimer's patient, "Look, a thread about Blackfish.")

Finally saw this on movie4k and its a very interesting documentary def worth a watch. I haven't been to the SeaWorld since I was a kid, and the zoo since I was in my young 20s with a gf, but I will never step in either place again.

The clip they showed of the Orca bleeding to death for 45 minutes was brutal to watch.

Even more disturbing if you read the autopsy report of Dawn Brancheau (who the documentary mainly focuses on). Hopefully that poor woman drowned first and quickly. The hypocrisy and lies from Sea World attempting to put all the blame on her is shameful.
