The reason I think the play calling was what it was last night after half time.

Cant have the defense running 80+ snaps. I think this is why we saw the change in gameplay. Our offense has quick strike capability and can actually score to fast. I guess theoretically you would rather have the offense on the field a little longer then the defense. I think that is what les was trying to do, but It didn't work. Funny thing is, we have been able to do it for years. Now I see why he did what he did. Still not happy about it, but if they would have executed better it would be marvelous. Ball control will be critical next week. Georgia like us, has quick strike capability. Need to keep them off the field.
I really think it had les to do with rain, and more to do with keeping the defense off the field, controlling the clock and shortening the game. We could have thrown a little more on 1st and been les predictable. But the run was there all night before the 4th.
The more I think about it, the more i think it was better coaching decisions then I previously thought.

I agree. It was blatantly obvious that the defense needed a break in the 4th quarter. They were on the field a ton. Gotta think our coaches were trying to eat some clock.

I still say that Miles had a friend or relative who took the +21 given to Auburn.

Great point and I do agree now that Ive learned more about the entire scenario and everything related to it. I hope you are correct as well. It looked to me as though we came in at half not ready to play and thought the game was going to be a blowout!

Don't agree.
I hope Cam didn't get frustrated up in the booth because it certainly seemed like Les took over play calling into the 4th. I'm afraid that Les' influence toward the end of games will not only frustrate Cam but the players too. We can't have that going forward.

the playcalling didn't change until 6 minutes to go in the game. Please go review the drive charts on lsusports.net for the 3rd quarter and first drive of the 4th quarter. Mettenberger had 160 passing in the 3rd quarter and threw a 32 yard td on the first play of the 4th quarter....The team basically went on 3 long drives in the 3rd quarter.

A 3-0 SEC team came into death valley and spent the entire night down by 14 points or more. If we had gotten 3 points instead of the fake field goal and 3 when Magee fumbled would we even be talking about this? If so, please just convince yourself that we really won 41-21 and stop making these dumb threads.

It's a myth that the offensive playcalling went to shite after halftime last night.
LSU was mixing it up in the 3rd.. throwing on 1st and 2nd down a lot.
LSU didn't start run, run, passing until it was midway through the 4th and they were trying to get back to the locker room.
People should really watch the game or look at a play chart.

They did go a little conservative in the 2nd quarter after going up by 21 though. Why?

The running game missed Turner. It was not the same in the 2nd half. The fumble in the red-zone left points off the board as well as the fake field goal. Overall, it's like the old ball coach used to say "if you don't like it stop it". 14 point win against an underrated Auburn team is done. Correct the mistakes and buckle up for next week.

most of the damage early was done on the ground, in the 2nd quarter Mett was basically sacked 3 times.

good reasoning.
how come we can't do this kind of reasoning during the game?
based on the last 8 years, am I wrong to trust miles and his coaches?
I thought the second guessing last nite was indicative of a lot of children having temper tantrums. the announcers (and a few posters) even mentioned the d needing a breather.
this sec is a NEW game. i'm trusting that lm is the smartest and will figure how to beat al and tam in high scoring contests.
of course, the ranters will know how to do it better. maybe they can even take a guess as how to gameplan. do you have a gameplan for Georgia?

The same one who bet on Alabama 1/9/12 I'm sure.

I think it's better to keep drives going by moving the chains even if it means throwing the ball on 1st or 2nd down. But I do see the staffs point of view that it is better to run the ball, not gain any yardage and punt on 4th down, you still used up some clock time. A compromise would be to throw on 1st down and if you complete the pass there will be a good chance you get a 1st down, if not you can still run the ball on 2nd and 3rd down for no gain, then punt.

Hopefully the staff will choose to keep the chains moving and try to get 1st downs against the better teams on the schedule. Generally this leads to scoring more points and thus increases the chances of winning the games.
