THIS JUST IN: NCAA approves reforms that will give Power Five conferences ability to write their own rules.

The NCAA Division I board of directors on Thursday voted to allow the 65 schools in the top five conferences to write many of their own rules. The autonomy measures -- which the power conferences had all but demanded -- will permit those leagues to decide on things such as cost-of-attendance stipends and insurance benefits for players, staff sizes, recruiting rules and mandatory hours spent on individual sports.

I think it means exactly what it says..

Power 5 governs itself..but is allowing the NCAA to say "yeah, we are letting them do this".

Not sure what to think about this, but it could be the beginning of the end of college football as we know it.

I see what it reads but what's the meaning? Can the sec say they will hold their own national championship? Or can the power 5 do it?

No, it's a power 5 division basically.

This is what they want you to think, but eventually it will trend toward paying players, not having any academic or character requirements, and free for all when it comes to recruiting

We are now on that path and it cant be stopped

Correct..but that's in terms of the NCAA's rules. They will have their own recruiting rules..which I'm sure will be voted on by a select panel of the power 5

they will be able to pay players to come play for them and not require them to maintain any academic requirements. that is what is going to happen ultimately…a defacto minor league for the NFL

Lets just let this play out. I know everybody thinks this is going to lead to the wild wild west for college football, but it could be the exact opposite. Now that these issue have been acknowledged and voted upon, maybe enforcing these rules will be easier, and the punishments stricter for violators? Now we will have a set of rules and governing body that EVERYONE voted for and hopefully we be held accountable for. This could be the best thing to happen to college football. Change is scary, but im not going to stress about this.....at least not yet lol!
