Wanna help the homeless? Hand them a trucking company ad.

I got this theory. Homeless and unemployed are looking for work and a place to stay. Why not a semi?
The big trucking companies will pay for your schooling. Some even have schooling programs. They will pay for everything to get you in a truck and start working.
The turnover rate is between 90-120% in OTR trucking. They could work all the time. And even if their truck was in the shop, the company will put them up in a hotel room.
Only hang-up would be felonies on the record.

A large portion of homeless have drug/alcohol problems, so handing them keys to a semi seems like a great idea.

People are homeless for many reasons but the majority of them are addicts or have severe mental problems. Neither of which I want on the same interstate as me handling 18 wheelers.

You don't end up homeless without a major mental illness, drug or alcohol issues, or a want to not work so your idea is one of the worst I have ever heard

give them rickshaws and eliminate Uber

How about we feed the homeless...
To the hungry?

I got this theory. Stop imprisoning simple possession violators (just give them a ticket) and replace them with the homeless trash.
They pollute our streets worse than anybody, so get them off.

You don't know anything about the trucking industry

Most of the homeless are not "looking for work". They are looking to survive. They want to be handed what they get. They are beggars. They are transients. Like rats. They will infest an area and suck the life and sustenance out of it while creating a "nest" of their own filth.
You know what happens when you don't get rid of rats?
You wind up with a lot more rats.

If you only understood homelessness....

I'm not saying they are necessarily "bad" people. They are just a certain sort of people. Rat people. Deal with enough of them and you realize they are always ready with an excuse as to why this or that is and that they are resourceful in ways to get them fed/high/drunk. and nowhere to be found when you need something from them.

Why not? I have a few reasons. The turnover problem in the trucking industry has more to do with driver "churn." It's when drivers leave one company for another with similar benefits. Now if you are talking the driver shortage, that's another concept altogether. The industry is currently between 25,000 - 40,000 short, with a projection of over 200,000 short by 2022 if the trend doesn't stop.
Now that we have that cleared up, why not the homeless? As was previously mentioned, drugs and alcohol will not mix with the trucking industry. Companies can now be sued even if a contracted driver gets in an accident. There is no way a carrier will hire someone with a drug/alcohol problem. And many of the homeless have this problem... or serious mental issues. Trucking companies want to hire quality drivers, not head cases. And is has happened in the past, carriers would rather have a load sit idle than ruin their reputation in the industry.

Did you make that up? Not saying I disagree, but is that part of a sales call? I have been hearing that since 2004. I have 4 CDL's who work at my mill, say it does not pay enough.
Half the drivers who pickup now, speak very poor English. Not so much Mexican, but Eastern EU.
