Standing on the soapbox - Racism and media coverage

Hello all. This is somewhat of a rant/gathering your thoughts on the media's coverage of racism in the United State.
I was listening to a podcast of This American Life while driving to work this morning. One of the stories was about a married couple (mixed) that experienced an episode of racism in a Berkeley restaurant. Instead of regurgitating the entire story, just take my word for it that the African American husband had every right to be p.o.ed at the waitress and he acted in an adroit manner.
That all said, a recent New York Times article: Negative View of U.S. Race Relations Grows, Poll Finds, the podcast that I listened to, along with the obvious (President Obama, the Ferguson incident, Trayvon Martin, the shooting of Walter Scott, etc.) got me thinking about racism in the media.
Generally speaking, why is racism in the media strictly a black and white issue? Why is it that the African American community is always the victim of racist attacks and remarks? I believe the Hispanic/Latino population is higher than the African American population in the United States. Are they never victims of racism? I can't recall it being reported. What about the Caucasian community? Are they never victims of racism? The Asian community? I can't recall it being reported.
I was discussing this with an African American co-worker of mine. He's a highly educated (undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and has his MBA from Loyola-Chicago). He is sharp, witty, personable. Yet, the majority of the African American community in Chicago sees him as an "Uncle Tom". Is this a form of racism?
I guess the point of the post was to rant a little and gather your thoughts. The constant media badgering of this topic has made me grown....apathetic. I'm tired of apologizing. I'm tired of the media scaling something so large and strictly accusing my skin color as the tyrant and oppressor. Shouldn't the media be heavily criticized and pestered for making such a gigantic issue in the world's "melting pot" a black and white issue?
Thoughts? TLDR? Don't give a damn?

I can't speak for the issue as a whole, but for the couple in Berkeley, the black/white combination is probably the least socially acceptable of the interracial pairings, especially if it's a black man and a white woman.

The Kardashians said hey.

Kim and Khloe prefer black men, but that doesn't disprove my point.

I had two friends one black man married to a white women and one white man married to a black woman. One night they were discussing how they were treated when they were out with their wives. At the end if the discussion everyone agreed that the white male black woman couple had the worst experiences.

Thoughts? Liberalism is a mental disorder.

You would think so, but I think a black woman and a white man are the least socially acceptable. I tried talking to a black woman at a bar a long time ago. After two minutes her brother comes up with a box cutter knife and says lets go outside. So I said f*ck that, I'll stick to white women.

Bc blacks are the target of the majority of racism both individually and institutionally in the U.S. And whites have been in power since the beginning.

Ironic...based off your logic, which I agree with, the media is stereotyping how racism is projected based on historical events, not necessarily current events (we know that white on black racism occurs, but so does other forms of racism too.). Maybe all the races should project their hate on members of the media?!

As a Hispanic I believe that my people are the victim of racism by the media. We are the white when it furthers their narrative like Trayvon Martin (George Zimmerman was white Hispanic) and brown when it wants to make us the victim in things like immigration. To me that's the biggest slap in all of this.

The media gets more readers and watchers - more revenue - if racism is a systemic one sided issue.

The media needs to reinforce the "victim mentality". If the bad guy is the white conservative with money then the "victims" will vote for Democrats.

We will only move forward once race stops being mentioned

Agreed. However a lot of powerful groups benefit from keeping things the same.

Have a former teammate who lives in Chicago and is black - when in college the blacks from the hood called him white boy and called any blacks that excelled in academics and had a proper vocabulary the same. I never heard the N word more in my life that in that locker room from blacks and I grew up in East TX. We have asians and other races here in America who never seem to have a problem assimilating. The majority of blacks cannot seem to get it together any time rule is turned over to them - Haiti? South Africa? LINK

ding ding ding
The media doesn't give a shite about being fair, or even being factual for that matter. They say whatever they need to to keep ratings up. And the average American is dumb enough to buy into it and watch all the bullshite they spew.

Well this thread will go south very quickly.... How many times can it be expressed that the OT is not a place to get an educated discussion on race
