Redfish at Trestles or Train Bridge?

I have never fished the area but planning on going near the rigoletes on Sunday if the weather holds up. If I want to specifically target redfish, should I try the trestles or near the train bridge? That will dictate whether I launch from the dock or the marina

I haven't done it this summer, though in the past I've had luck with big reds under the L&N train bridge. I wouldn't mess with the trestles this time of year with all the rain/freshwater. If you go the extreme left side of bridge(if running from Rigolets) with live shrimps on bottom cast behind the boat and straight down you may catch reds and maybe even a speck or two. I think your best bet for reds this time of year would be live minnows on the shoreline and ponds of lake Catherine and the ICW. That requires more skill than soaking live shrimp at the bridge but can be really productive. Go look at Matrix Shad's website they are helpful too.

About the ICW --- is fishing the beginning of it near/off the rigolets what you all mean?
Is this waterway traveled by large/commerical boats often? I assume that is its purpose?

Yes there are barges and large commercial vessels in the ICWW.
There are a lot of cuts off the waterway that hold fish.
I've been catching reds trolling the Lake Borgne shoreline this summer; mostly casting a gold spoon. I fish closer to Chef, but the end of Lake B by the Rigolets should be good too.

Nice Dat Yat, I could stay further south since the rigolettes doesn't seem so hot right now. I might try launching from chef harbor marina and move into the bototm of lake B. Never been out there either and excited to try new areas.

So I went out there today. Only got to fish until about 9:30. Only caught one redfish because everytime we threw a golden spoon, DOA shrimp, or matrix jig, a mullet or the smallest trout (< 8 inches) I have ever seen would get it. Many, many bites, and fish, but all mostly small except that one red we brought in.
I will definitely be going back though, is an easy spot to get to and has a bunch of potential.

Yea it was crazy... I am not the most experienced fisherman, but have been out enough to notice it was strange.
Some of the mullet were hooked in the mouth like they went for it, while a high amount of them were hooked through the neck.. We threw them back but not sure the ones through the neck made it far after
I also have never seen schools of trout that SMALL before. Many of the mullet we caught were bigger than the trout.
Strange day all around, but that one red felt nice and there was a decent breeze.

You sure they were mullet? I've caught lots of lady fish on trout/redfish lures, never mullet.

Yes, you are right on that one. I just did a google image search and they were definitely lady fish and not mullet... man they are annoying... Also, the bleeding alot was a give away, I turned around after my son got one and he had blooding running down his arm from getting the fish off the hook.
