Jose wants Pep to be more like Brendan Rodgers.

Right now Pep is a better tactical coach. Pep will stay true to his philosophy no matter what.
Jose will do what ever it takes to win regardless of tactics.
In the head to head Pep is up but most of that is due to his first couple years at Barca when he dominated Jose at Madrid. Jose beat him when was at Inter but once He got to Madrid those first few years it wasn't close. Make no mistake Pep had a much better team at his disposal. That last year before Pep took his year off Jose had closed the gap.
Both are great coaches for win now situations. I think they will only battle it out for 3 years as Pep is always on the look for a new challenge. While Jose claims he wants to stay around as long as United will have him.

That's the kind of answer I was looking for, thanks
Like you said I don't think Pep is going to be around long. He's always looking to go somewhere new it seems. But with Jose I think United has always been his end game, his dream job, and I for one would love to see him build something ferguson-esce and stay for years and years

Jose's recent appointment as the Manchester United manager has surely had no impact on your arguably favorable analysis on the Jose side of the Pep/Jose relationship/rivalry, right?

That was a pretty fair and balanced break down of the two. I started off saying Pep is the better tactical manager right now. He is ahead of everyone like Jose was during his first stint at Chelsea.
That's not really showing favoritism to either. I'd prefer Pep at United but his downfall is he's out in 3 years, and I'd want stability at United. Jose is a risk but he wants to be stable and stick around. So it's going to work great or blow up in our face.

Has Pep said that he only plans to stick around for 3 years publicly? Or is that just an assumption based on what he did at Bayern? And as far as stability, Jose's career thus far has been the exact opposite. Incredible manager, but not exactly stable.

He says he likes new challenges

That was my point. He wants to be stable b/c his past is not stable at all.

quote:No. I've seen various things thrown about, and Clichy said something about hoping to work with him for the next 5-6 years. So I do think the plan is for him to stay a bit longer at City.

I think we can all agree that Pep probably won't complete whatever goals he's set for City in a 3 year period. It's most likely a long-term project. And I'd guess there will be plenty to keep him interested.
Now maybe Pep is a God amongst mortals, and he'll accomplish everything at City in 3 years. But I doubt it.

Since when does Jose bring stability to a club?

you like him as a personality?
Jose isn't one of the top15-20 coaches in Soccer. He's an aging, bitter twat, who's troll game is getting as stale as his tactics.
He had a team quit on him for christs sake.
Jose career is up there with some of the greats, but his coaching hasn't aged well. He was an embarrassment at Chelsea this last time, and he got whipped at home by Watford, and struggled against a minnow at home on Thursday. He has to try to buy a full team of top talent to win, now. And it's debatable he could still pull it off.

As opposed to all those other top managers winning all those trophies without doing that.

I think he may stay longer as well. He even hinted at it yesterday after the embargo on his press conference details were lifted.
Pep:
“I am so happy here so I’m not just thinking about ‘will it just be three years?’"
"I can stay more time or less. Less I know will happen. It depends on the results or if the chairman is not happy with me or our job."
"But if they are happy with me I can stay that period and if I am happy and they are happy, why not longer?”
I think a big thing that drew Pep to City is that they aren't a top tier club competitively, at least as of yet. The resources to become one are certainly at the club and if he lifts City to that level then it will have been him that did it. He could literally become the club's legendary manager.
Before at Barca and at Bayern he was just another manager. Others had won the UCL and pretty much won everything else.

or his unreal salary.
Lets be real the money and the unlimited resources drew Pep to City. There are plenty of non top tier clubs he could have gone too.
City is one of the big boys now in terms of money and players.

I thought Jose was Mr. 3 year? No reason to believe he'll be at United any longer..
