An incredible opportunity

This is going to be long, so if reading is not your thing, it's probably best if you click the "Back" button now.
I don't post on this board often, but I've been reading it quite a bit during the election season. I'm no fan of Trump personally, but I supported him as the Republican candidate and was pleasantly shocked to see him win like he did. Barely 48 hours ago there was serious discussion about whether this election sounded the death knell for the Republican Party; now, come next year, they will have control over all three branches of government. The question is, what will they do with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity?
I call it "once-in-a-lifetime" because there are a lot of factors coming together to create a perfect storm for the Republicans. The Democratic Party has drifted so far to the left that they have alienated much of their traditional base. One only has to look at the election map to see this. The wannabe social engineers who are currently out wandering the streets in anger are a small minority who cannot, by themselves, wield any real political power in this country. They need the support of groups much larger than they are to be able to pull any of the levers of government. The groups that they turn to, and who have followed them along more or less faithfully thus far, are women, blacks, and hispanics.
Soon-to-be-President Trump's upcoming term offers a tremendous opportunity to take some of that support away and deal a death blow to social progressivism as a political movement in this country. In order to make that happen, I believe the Republicans need to focus on the following things:
1. Trump needs to deliver on at least some of his campaign promises, specifically the ones around improving inner cities and rebuilding the country's infrastructure. A massive government investment in those two areas will create thousands of new jobs, many of which would be for unskilled labor, which will provide opportunities for those currently living in poverty in those selfsame inner cities to better themselves. In fact, I would not be opposed to a government mandate on these jobs that people living in the affected areas be given first right to them. Give the people in the inner cities something more than empty promises and a welfare check. Do this, and black support for the Democratic Party begins to erode.
2. Definitely clamp down on illegal immigration and focus on getting control of our borders, but don't do anything to make the latino community already in this country feel threatened. This is key. The Democratic Party claims to speak for Hispanics but have not, to this point, really done anything for them. The Republicans need to reach out, connect with the community, and do something for them. The infrastructure investment I mentioned in Item 1 would be a start, but go further than that. Get involved in their communities and get them involved in the party in return. Let them know that they are valued American citizens who the Republican Party will fight for just like anyone else. If the Republicans do nothing else on my list, they MUST do this one. Hispanics are going to be the majority in this country. If the Republicans want to remain viable into the future, then they must make major inroads here.
3. Much of what Obama has done needs to be repealed, or at least overhauled, but they can't be stupid about it. Obamacare needs to go, but to believe that we can just repeal it and immediately go back to the way things used to be is probably a pipe dream. That cat is already out of the bag. They need to come up with a plan that gets rid of the idiotic system we currently have, keeps people protected medically, and doesn't hurt the middle class in the wallet. That's a tall order, but that's the task to which they have set themselves, and they have to pull it off, or the backlash will be severe.
4. Don't do anything stupid to drive the labor vote back to the left. The Democrats are currently inserting their foot directly into their mouth, marching the streets and screaming about the evil white man. They are insulting and offending the largest voter block in this country. The Republicans just need to sit back and, to put it crudely, not frick up. Let them destroy themselves.
If the Republicans can pull off these four things, then the Democratic Party will have no choice but to make a major shift back to the center to remain viable. The progressive element will go back to being what they have traditionally been, which is a very vocal, very small minority with no actual power. The mainstream media will continue to be who they are, but their influence will continue to wane as alternative forms of media become more ubiquitous. They, too, will eventually have to shift back towards center in order to attempt to draw viewers back in.
Reaching out to some of these minority groups is critical. The media is going to attempt to paint Trump's entire presidency as "whitey's last gasp," and the Republicans cannot play into that narrative. They need to answer with positive, inclusive action that benefits all Americans. If they can successfully do this, they will successfully relegate the progressive left to the margins of society, where it needs to be. The Democrats would have to return to their traditional labor base in order to remain relevant.
I hope the Republicans realize this and are up to the task. And, I hope Trump drops the electioneering facade and acts presidential from this point forward. His acceptance speech was a good first step in that direction. I am hoping he keeps it up.

I 100% agree. I don't think anyone wants to just box all the Mexicans up and send them home. But they need to follow our laws, we need to come up with a program that makes it easier for them to work here and return home.
