Hilarious destruction of the media surrounding modernisation of the game

quote:

I am writing this article on a Tuesday. It will not appear online until Wednesday. And so there is every possibility that by the time you encounter these words, humanity and the world it inhabits will have been so irrevocably disfigured that they will cease to hold any relevance.

...

Naturally, a statement as drastic as this requires a little context. Cathro is 30 and arrives at Tynecastle with a reputation as one of the brightest young coaches in Europe. The word “genius” is frequently used to describe him. And so, unless you know your football properly, it would be easy to regard his ascent with a certain optimism, perhaps even excitement. I certainly did.

But then I saw some of the reaction to Cathro’s appointment, and was instantly apprised of my folly.

...

The spectre of computers supplanting human endeavour, and eventually humans themselves, has been a staple of science fiction for some time now. But in a week Amazon announced plans to open a shop with automated machines instead of sales staff, the real-world implications of Cathro’s appointment are immense.

The mainstream media will never tell you about it – Boyd’s column appeared in a little-known newspaper called The Sun – but we have all seen The Matrix. We all know how this ends.

...

One of the criticisms levelled at a young manager like Cathro is that he has “never kicked a ball in his life”. Now, just think for a moment about how statistically improbable that is. Cathro was assistant to Rafael Benítez at Newcastle. Before that, he was assistant manager at Valencia and Rio Ave in Portugal. Before that, he was the head of Dundee United’s academy. Before that, he was a youth coach. In other words – Mother Temptation, why dost thou torture him so? – Cathro has spent virtually his entire working life surrounded by footballs.

...

What does Cathro want? Can he be appeased? Will he be a benevolent technocrat, or will he end up harvesting Don Cowie’s organs for energy? The truth is that until he opens that laptop lid for the first time, nobody really knows for sure.

The media are utter retards. Either they accept data regardless of how it is assembled or they are utterly regressive and myopic.

I read a piece yesterday that slammed the milquetoast takes of the British media re: Cathro's appointment. Can't find it but it basically was like a novella form of mick mccarthy's "some people think that was a bad result? Some people can frick off." rant. Basically said it's time for Scottish football to think outside the box and gave Hearts credit. I'm a Hearts fan and like the move. Could totally fail but this guy seems to have his shite together.

Not for long. Aberdeen taking our rightful place this week.

Do think that 1-2-3 will finish identical to last season.
