I have two kids under the age of six. Want to start taking them hunting. I hunt swamp mostly so that is out of the question. Looking for a club where me and my wife and kids can go that's under $700 a year

Under $700 seems like a difficult club to find honestly.

Grassy Lake or Richard Yancey out of question?

I know of hunting clubs under 700 but single membership. One is $350.00 for squirrels only and $800.00 for deer but no openings right now just stating this to let you know there may be some but single memberships.

Don't overlook WMA's. There are several close to Baton Rouge. With a father and his son, it will be more about the time together than the kill, in the end. But there is game on our WMA's and you will kill, eventuallly as you learn them.

Look around in Washington Parish. There are a ton of clubs over there and they would be close to your price range however remember they are about convenience not stellar hunting! St. Helena also has quite a few clubs

Similar situation.

I am looking for a relatively inexpensive club to take my daughter deer hunting (6) and have a place to teach her to shoot and hunt.

Anything within 2 hours of Lafayette, preferably woods and not swampy area.

Point me in the direction

WMA's arent exactly the best places to teach kids to hunt. Kids having to wake up extra early to hike to good areas and fighting other hunters everywhere gets old quick and would probably discourage kids. IMO kids need to have some double ladders or box stands where they can eat snacks, take a nap or talk quietly when things are slow to keep them interested.

For deer, yeah but he never indicated a preference in game. I was thinking squirrels, ducks, and hogs but we hunt deer on WMA's occasionally and don't get up any earlier and seldom see hunters in the immediate area we hunt.

EDIT: I agree a hunting club is better but Iwas weighing everything and thought it was way cost effective being he wanted to include wife and kids.

Instead of a hunting club, have you thought about reaching out to timber companies and looking for a 100-120 acre lease?

There's some under $700 in mid la. But what I would recommend is shoot at the house. Then learn to walk in the woods. Then learn how to find signs of game. Take them to WMA before the season opens. Just like you would you scout. Get them scouting and finding signs of game.
Then keep an eye out on LDWF website starting around September for Yount only hunts. Sign up, get drawn, take them hunt.

Looking for the same out of Lafayette. Will be following. If you find something small I'd like to hear about it. Sounds like there is three of us looking around south LA. We might have a small group already.
