They have 400 members of their legesilature who meet every other year and get paid $200.

When one of those slime balls in Baton Rouge tell you they have to raise taxes remind them of the very small government in New Hampshire.

New Hampshire is also a state with very few poverty issues.

New Hampshire's demographics.

quote:

Nationally, most of the people who receive benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are white. According to 2013 data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which administers the program, 40.2 percent of SNAP recipients are white, 25.7 percent are black, 10.3 percent are Hispanic, 2.1 percent are Asian and 1.2 percent are Native American.

Me thinks the issue is a bit more complicated than demographics.

You do realize blacks make up only 12% of the population, right? And whites make up 70%?

I agree the issue is complicated but what are you trying to say?

A 67% majority (nationally) receives 40%

A 17% minority (nationally) receives 25%

Because "most people that receive benefits are white" does not mean a region with a higher % white population receives more benefits. The opposite actually.

Of course. No one is arguing that blacks are not poorer than whites in the United States.
But that doesn't change the fact that cost drivers are multiplicative of the raw number of participants not per capita percentages. The cost driver of the welfare state is therefore not actually any individual minority group.

It is simple math.
And if you are honest 40% is actually a very surprising figure given public perceptions of Welfare and SNAP...particularly on the right.

Why is that?

With the population discrepancy between white and black whites will lead in all categories good and bad. From welfare to murder.

Fiscal conservatives don't care what race their money is going to, just the requirements that determine how many receive it which determines how much is taken. There are plenty of white people not working because the government will pay them not to.

Only when referring to those who are being subsidised.

When you're referring to voting demographics it is not.

But they have sky high property taxes and all kids of odd annual fees, something like $500 to have a license plate, and do levy tax on certain investment income

the state and local tax burden in louisiana is 7.6% of total state net income LINK
the state and local tax burden in new hampshire is higher at 7.9% of total state net income
LINK

There business tax rate is 8% with almost no credits or deductions, if we burdened business with the level of business tax that they collect per capita we'd have an extra $2 billion.

The rhetoric on the subject often paints it as a program to help minorities. The fact is that there are millions of white folks on assistance.

Well, some might argue that Louisiana's absurd sales tax skims a hell of a lot of money off of Louisiana's large black community. One might even call it an oppressive amount of money.

Man it's an interesting point, but... no
