They are open borders. Period. They have been. Always have been.
This is not true.
One of the defining characteristics of the libertarian movement/party, at least historically, was an intense clash between those who supported open orders and those who did not.
The latter no longer exist within the movement

What happened to the libertarian movement re: immigration?
Posted by HailHailtoMichigan! on 1/16/26 at 10:22 pm
There was a time not that long ago where the libertarian movement had a vibrant if not majority faction that had center-right to right wing views on illegal immigration.
This faction has all but vanished. The 2 major libertarian institutions- reason.com and the CATO institute- are firmly on the left on illegal immigration.
My hunch is that this is because so many ex libertarians have left the movement/party in the last decade, as the movement offers no defense/message against institutional wokeism, identity politics, etc. What is left is a movement populated by individuals who are either left(ish) or indifferent to cultural rot.

Why is the border wall not being built despite 40 billion dollars provided by BBB law?
Posted by HailHailtoMichigan! on 1/15/26 at 8:18 pm
One of the key provisions in the big beautiful bill was nearly 50 billion dollars allocated to the border wall. The law specifically funded the project.
Why isn’t this major public works project taking place yet? It is imperative this wall gets built before next presidency begins.

LSU needs to consider diverting more money to basketball
Posted by HailHailtoMichigan! on 1/15/26 at 6:30 pm
It’s the one huge hole in LSU athletics.
Ostensibly, the other major sports programs are rolling in dough.
Is it really too much to ask baseball and football to take like a 2-4% paycut?
The thing about NIL for basketball is you only need 1 or 2 great players to turn around a program

re: Another ICE involved shooting in Minneapolis, shovel attack, possible Venezuelan suspect

I am extremely skeptical of the idea that these white liberal women in Minnesota would be fine with ICE if they didn’t wear masks.
Regarding your larger point:
In the last 12 months, there have only been 170 confirmed instances in which an American citizen was temporarily, improperly detained by ICE.
In that same timeframe, there have been approximately 622,000 forced deporations.
This puts ICE’s improper, temporary detention rate at 0.027%.
In other words, ICE has a 99.973% success rate.
There is no such thing as perfection, especially in government.
Yes, ICE has made some mistakes in terms of arresting citizens, but every day in America, the government accidentally nabs the wrong person, whether it be the IRS wrongly fining someone for overdue taxes or the fbi detaining the wrong person for murder.
Those are not arguments against the IRS or FBI, yet I feel like you are letting ICE’s small failure rate cloud your judgment

I don’t have a problem with people protesting.
But obstructing operations and getting up close to law enforcement apprehensions is dangerous, reckless, and needs to be discouraged.
Protesters should stand 40-50 yards away at least, and should not engage in any action that slows down or impedes the officers.
Protesting definition: the act of an individual or group to publically voice their opposition to a government or other entity.
Key word: VOICE their opposition
Protesting DOES NOT mean slow down or prevent something from happening

Where are you getting this idea that it is somehow unprecedented that law enforcement authorities are deporting individuals who are here illegally, but did not commit a violent crime?
Data from presidential terms going back to the Eisenhower presidency show that it is quite commonplace for folks like this to face deportation.
It only became controversial around 2014/2015 when the dems shifted very left on immigration

If The Great Creamsicle had stuck to his word and used ICE to go after the illegals with criminal records
You do realize that the entire reason ICE has to go into neighborhoods in places like Minneapolis, etc is because those cities have sanctuary laws that prohibit city law enforcement from informing ICE when an illegal has been jailed.
these dangerous raids - in more ways than one - happen BECAUSE of sanctuary city/state policies. In red states following our immigration laws, most of these people are getting picked up at the courthouse or jail.

And the big difference between Trump and Obama in regards to deportations- Obama followed the constitution.
What does this even mean?
Are you completely ignorant of the process by which ICE operations take place? A judge needs to sign off on a deportation order prior to an operation taking place.
Just admit that you think someone illegally in America should be allowed to stay

re: US workers are taking home less of what they produce than ever before
Posted by HailHailtoMichigan! on 1/12/26 at 10:20 pm to Ag Zwin
Your title is not what the graph shows.
You are interpreting this to mean that per worker, they are only getting 53% of the output they produce, but the graph is referring to labor income across entire economy.
The reason that “labor’s” share of gdp has fallen since the late 90s is because of the baby boomers retiring and the American age pyramid increasingly becoming top heavy.
Compared to the 90s and before, a huge chunk of gdp is retirees earning social security.
This artificially lowers the labor share of gdp
