Here's Zenit's season this year:
1. Be placed in easy Champions League Group
2. Go 4-1-1, finish top of table
3. Lose the midseason, Collapse in January, lose games you should win, fall out of the title chase
4. Be eliminated in the 1st round of Knockout by a team not expected to win. Thinking Portuguese this year.
5. Finish qualified for Champions League next year, but not in first place.

It's the Zenit way.

You forgot racist and xenophobic chants towards their own players.

Acerbi

Acerbi has been really good since his return. Sabatini, the previous Roma SD before Monchi, seemed to have very keen interest in him the past couple of seasons so I always paid closer attention.

Zenit's back line could be like multiverse Roma with Paredes in front of Acerbi and Manolas.

Kind of surprised no EPL side made a huge offer for Manolas. He's so perfect for the EPL is that he's as good as it gets in breaking up play in a broken field. He finally created a bit too much dressing room drama I believe to stay at Roma. Not of the worst kind but simply that he's so incredibly high strung that there's few top players for Roma with whom he hasn't gotten into a fight with and the nasty brawl with Dzeko during the recent Greece/Bosnia match was the probably the last straw.

Paredes seems all set to be an incredible playmaking DM from a physical standpoint: brilliant footwork, precision accuracy on long balls and doesn't mind hard tackling break up play. Not the fastest player but neither were De Rossi, Xabi Alonso etc. .

However, for lack of a better way to put it, his weakness has been that he tends to be a bit lazy mentally and loses focus too often protecting the CBs.

From going to a couple of Roma matches where he played, it's telling how much Spalletti coaches, i. e. screams at, Paredes specifically for being out of position.

He never quite gained Spalletti's trust and really didn't play much as much as many expected this past season but he has all the tools to be a top player in a position that's hard to fill.
