I’ve tried explaining it but I can’t make them understand.

Abstract concepts like Capitalism and Trickle-down-economics, that require understanding of multiple levels of economics are completely lost to them. Tried explaining why $15 minimum wage was a bad thing, and they simply do not get it.

No, I’m not going to the Poli board. I’ll meet you at Sonic. Fight me.

There is no real, practical reason why a layman should have any kind of economic understanding. It doesn't improve daily life at all.

I will, however, quote one Mr. Murray Rothbard on the issue:

quote:

It is no crime to be ignorant of economics, which is, after all, a specialized discipline and one that most people consider to be a ‘dismal science.’ But it is totally irresponsible to have a loud and vociferous opinion on economic subjects while remaining in this state of ignorance.

because they rely more on emotion than logic. it's easier to feel all warm and fuzzy by saying everybody deserves a living wage than it is to critically think about what further allowing the gubbermint to mandate what a private business pays it's employees can do to the economy in general.

I disagree. When it comes to shoes, they have even less of an understanding of economics. Near mentally retarded understanding.

Are you a teacher? Why are you explaining economics to any adult?

I bet you're one of those people who leave 4 paragraph responses on viral facebook posts and think you're going to change anyone's mind.

1) Most people who claim to understand economics don’t, probably including OP.

2) No matter your economic opinion, there’s an easy-to-find, smarter-than-you economist who thinks you’re wrong. So get off your high horse.

Because, public schools could give a flying frick about teaching economics. History, civics and economics are the last thing schools are worried about.
