Best All-Around Compound Bow

I would like to get into bow hunting and would like some recommendations on what bow to buy. I'd like to spend $1000 or less. Also, will a left-handed bow need to be a special order? TIA

go to an archery shop and get them to set up a few different bows to shoot. its important to get a bow that fits YOU. You can get a good setup for far less than 1k, especially on a first bow.

I went and got the PSE Stinger X and love it. My budget was about half of yours and I got a heck of a deal on it.
My store had a lefty in stock but they may have to order one for you.

Look for a good used bow that is 3-4 years old and already rigged up. The most important thing is to get measured so you know your correct draw length. It will be a little tougher on you to find a used one being left handed but you should be able to get a very high quality bow for under $1k if you are patient.
Buying new would allow you to test several different brands and styles to know what feels best to you but I doubt you could get into a new setup for under $1k unless you purchase a lower to mid range budget bow.
Flagship bows of the major brands are usually in the $700-$1000 range and then you have to add a sight, rest, quiver, stabilizer, bow case, arrows, release, broadheads, etc.

I really like my Mathews Triax but I've admittedly been a Mathews guy ever since I got rid of my first Hoyt. There's a lot of great bows out now from several different manufacturers. Go to a shop and shoot as many as you can then decide. The $1k budget is going to hold you to buying used for it to be fully setup and come in under budget. Archerytalk.com's classifieds section is a great place to find a great used setup. Those guys are usually great and they tend to run off the bad apples quickly so you can usually deal with confidence on there. That will save you a lot of money

Don't worry about the bow as much as everything else that goes into bowhunting. Don't over-complicate it. You can find a really nice used bow for half of your budget.
It ain't the bow, it's the indian.

+1. New Triax is a little beast. I wet through bows the past 5 years. The Triax checks all the boxes for me.

If you just wanted to get in cheap I'd recommend looking for an old Mathews Switchback. They're sweet shooting bows with a good let off.

Those Switchback XT's are still one of the best hunting bows ever made. I wish I'd never sold the one I had

So I’m a big advocate for the Switchback being a great bow. However, we are at a point where that bow is twelve years old and any used one has been used hard. Speaking to Mathews, You can get say a Creed or an HTR for the same price as what most people are asking for a Switchback. I would recommend either of those bows that I think are better than any of the Switchback variations.

Get fit for a Hoyt and thank me later.

There's a lot of truth in that. I had a NoCam HTX that was a great hunting bow that I used for a couple years. I paid $600 for it used and sold it 2 years later for $575. I was impressed with it. I haven't shot the HTR or Creed so I have no experience with either of those
