I’m more amazed the dos Santos brothers both made it. Gio has legit talent, but is incredibly lazy and not worth the millions the Galaxy are paying him. Yet he continues to get call-ups.
Maybe they won’t make the final roster.

Costa Rica v Brazil in Group E could be interesting if Navas is lights out. I think it will be a nice competition to move to the knockout round between CR and Switzerland.
Panama gonna get blown up in Russia

There's certainly a few reasons why he's not playing for us.

yea our coaches f'd up
It also shows the major flaws in American youth development. This kid was living in cali and not one MLS academy was able to identify him and snap him up. He goes to Mexico and kills it and then final gets called into the USMNT youth set up.

He got called up in 2012. 2 years before he joined Monterrey.

he played his first U-17 match the same year he joined Monterrey. Do you have a link on him playing at other levels before hand.
Also if he has been playing at younger levels that's even worse MLS clubs were not all over him, which made him decide to go to Mexico. Probably the love being showed by a Mexican club made him feel more Mexican and def influenced his decision.

Here's a link to him being called up in 2012 to play with the U14s. He was one of the 2 youngest players on the roster.

At the same time, how many MLS clubs had full fledged academies at that time? The homegrown rule is just now turning 10 years old.

LA Galaxy had one, Chivas USA at the time, and SJ were all in cali.

He still didn't make a registered appearance until U-17's

He was still called up at every level.
Just sucks for him that he had one of the latest birthdays, so he was always one of the youngest players. He was also changing positions a lot between 2012-2016.

Tons of players thrive off that and develop bc they play with kids much bigger.

Of course, but when you're constantly getting called in with guys like McKennie, Pulisic, Adams, etc., and your position is changing by the year, your minutes are going to be at a premium.
Our midfield in his age group has been pretty stacked.

one of the main reasons i'll be watching the world cup this year is to hopefully see concacaf teams get burned to the fricking ground. it would be amazing if mexico didn't advance past group stage because 1) frick mexico & 2) because fox can get fricked for their mexican promo bullshite.
