Faithful & The Fallen

Actually meant to search for another thread and accidentally started this one.
But just bought the 4 book box set of this after seeing it very well regarded on here. Don't really have anything to actually say as I haven't started the series yet.
I'll check back after Labor Day and should have at least one book finished...
ETA: Books just arrived, got 100 pages left in Republic of Thieves and not doing anything for Labor Day so plenty of time to get in deep.

Loved it.
I started a thread probably 4-5 months ago maybe about it.
With as many fantasy fans here, I was surprised that so few had read or even heard of it.
Some really great characters with really well done arcs.
There is another series by the same author that seems to be a sequel of sorts, hundreds of years after the events in Faithful and the Fallen.
Really want to read it but kind of want to be reasonably certain he will finish it before I dive in.

This is how I am these days, unless it is a series made up of worthwhile and stand-alone books.

This site has been absolutely great for my reading habits over the past year or however long. With so many fantasy people, I've gotten tons of recommendations and been exposed to lots of new authors I was hesitant on giving a shot at first.

Same here.
I found Faithful and the Fallen by accident. Was looking at the bookstore for something else and saw it, looked a little interesting and I said frick it, I’ll give Malice a shot.

That is how I found Wheel of Time when I was in high school - read a bunch of Redwall when I was young, Narnia, Hobbit/LOTR and Harry Potter.
Didn't really have anything that I had heard of, think I tried some Dragonlance stuff and didn't like it much, then found WoT and fell in love with it.
After reading Malazan, Dark Tower and a few others I tried a few things which were ok but nothing really grabbed me again - seemed to run into a lot of bullshite which had uninteresting characters following typical tropes (fine with the tropes as long as the characters or setting brings is interesting or has value). Fell out of reading as much as i would like and at one point probably stopped altogether for a while.
After checking in here have gotten into Sanderson (although I had been meaning to read him after he helped out on WOT), the Foundation Series, Gentleman Bastards and have a nice list to move forward with.
Its honestly helped me get back in to reading at the pace I used to, which I am very happy out.

It is a direct continuation of the series pretty much(grandkids of characters from the original series running around as main characters), just 130 years later (according to Gwynne on the exact years anyway). First book is very good, but I understand and somewhat share your concerns about authors finishing series these days.

Finished the first one yesterday- I enjoyed it, nothing groundbreaking but it was well done and has strong characters

I think books 2 and 3 were my favorites.
The character arcs for Cywen and Marquin were very well done.

Ya I mean the story seems pretty predictable and all, but I don't really mind that as much with strong characters. World-building isn't really anything special - at least thus far - everyone is a warrior, old castles, traveling through woods and streams, etc.
But I loved Coban, Gar, Cywen, the witch / healer lady and most all of the people in that group at the end of Malice. They really carried the story and the asian seemed to read pretty quickly even though it was a lot of set-up leading to the "reveal" at the end even though I'd imagine most people could tell who was who well before that.
- ETA the paragraph up there says "Asian" cause I misspelled book with a g in front, like g00k, and the site auto-corrected it. Never knew it did that kind of thing but its pretty funny.

It’s definitely a character driven story.
The world is interesting but not very unique as far as fantasy goes. But as the story unfolds, you really start to love or loathe almost all of the characters.
Possible spoiler below, depending how sensitive you are to that sort of thing.
Some deaths later in the story are very satisfying and others heartbreaking.

Yeah, the worldbuilding is nothing special, but the characters are top notch and the story itself isn't totally predictable like some series. Like memphis I'd say the middle two books are the best, though it has a really solid finish I think as well.

I got distracted with some other stuff, but dug back into book two on Monday night and finished it up this morning.
Was a little surprised at the end with the reveal about Calidus and Nathair - don't want to get into specifics in case some haven't read it.
Love the charcters though, Maquin and Cywen were both very strong characters that shined in this book in addition to all the ones from the first book.

Cywen and Marquin were my two favorites in book 2.
Overall I think those 2 and Veradis were by far the best characters.

Just finished the last book - got distracted by some other stuff after I finished book 3. But I think the last book may have been my favorite - the final battle was done pretty well I think.
The last two books didn't turn out exactly as I expected and the characters were very strong throughout the whole series IMO - on both sides. Cywen, Maquin, Veradis, Nathair, Lykos, Camlin, Alcyon. I felt like the series kept getting stronger with each book.
