CONCACAF just announced that all members will have to qualify for the 2021 Gold Cup, and Nations League will fill that role.

Makes sense and now in a sense everyone has to qualify

My question is: does this raise the "importance of match" in the FIFA rankings procedure?

I=15 for a group phase Nations League match, but
I=25 for qualification matches for Confederations final competitions.

This would make a ton of sense if the gold cup was every four years

But this just adds a ton of matches vs inferior competition causing a congested two years cycle vs teams in the federation

It’s over bloats the calendar for the better teams when they could be playing better competition in friendly matches.

Today's news doesn't change anything as long as you finish in the top 2 of your group.

If you are required to qualify every two years in the nations league for the gold cup

It does congest the fixtures with low quality teams

Both European and African teams would be unavailable on these dates. They are having UEFA and AFCON qualifiers.

Good thing there are good teams in South America and Asia

Man you always going to bat for this bullshite

Beating up on team in this federation over and over does us no good. Extra matches vs inferior competition is the last thing we need.

I have to say, I was expecting that graphic to be confusing as hell, but they did a nice job. It makes things pretty clear.

Well then South America

But I doubt every time we have league of nation matches everyone else will have qualifying

There is plenty of time some countries are playing friendly matches and other are playing legit matches during the international break

For the FIFA Men’s World Ranking, all  2019-2020 Concacaf Nations League matches will be granted a coefficient score which corresponds to qualification matches to a Confederations final competition, rather than friendly international matches played during FIFA International Match Calendar window.

So it looks like the coefficient will be 25 instead of 15. The Nations League group stage matches will count 2.5x more than a regular friendly.

Top 15, here we come
