Looking forward to having some cocktail golf on after putting the kids down for bed.
Yeah, totally. I guess my thought should be that it would take a pro a lot longer to get his line to the back than it would take me.

Did your rangefinder confirm your watch or was it off by more than a yard or so?

More often than not, it confirms things. There have been times where the gps watch was off. That is what keeps me coming back to the rangefinder. I am not good enough to need an exact number to the pin. The middle should be my aim, but I have more confidence when I can confirm the number I am looking at is right.

They place the next ball at the start of the last divot creating the lines you see. It is easier on turf management and for the recovery of the grass. They aren't going to hit out of the last divot.

I understand that. What OP is asking is not about the line, it's about where the club interacts with the turf. If a pro is constantly making contact with the turf a few inches past the ball (in the direction of the range), wouldn't the grass the ball was sitting on be fine? What is the name of that swinging robot? Would that robot have a divot line, or would you be able to place the ball in the same spot on the grass because the turf was still intact?

I can't for the life of me, understand your question. Do you have an example? Picture?

Pros typically hit ball first then ground when hitting their irons. So, their divots on the range should be in front of where they hit the ball. So, why do they have lines instead of the same divot each time. I assume it is just because they do hit it at the ball or slightly behind at times.
I've thought this as well when my divot line is awful at the range. I've just been too afraid to ask. I was watching a Bryan Bros video yesterday. They had an Indian kid that is going to play at South Carolina. they showed his divot lines in practice and they looked like they were made with a ruler. It made me think of this thought I have had from time to time.

I have both, but it's just because I can't bring myself to fully trust my GPS watch. I have a Garmin S42. For the vast majority of circumstances it is fine. However, I will pull out my rangefinder just to confirm things when I have time.
12 teams get into the playoffs. I don't care what the situation was the year before; we should always feel like LSU has a shot to be one of the 12 best teams in the country.

Y’all are really overreacting to a guy who is no longer in the top 150 of professional golf rankings & was the 31st ranked player on LIV last year

I am not going to act like this is a big get for the PGA Tour. Maybe Brooks becomes a better player this year with more motivation to earn spots in tournaments, but I won't count on it.

However, this is a big loss for LIV. Brooks was the captain of one of 13 teams on LIV. He still had an entire year left on his contract. One of the faces of the league gave up millions of dollars to leave the league. It's not a good look.

You're laughing at the lack of engagement in your thread in which you stated the obvious?
quote:

it's a defense but not a great one when when they pretty clearly and intentionally did it to target specific players (Cam, Bryson, Rahm, and Koepka) and, in one case, intentionally to eliminate another (Phil). For instance, generally speaking, winning a major gets you fully exempt status on the PGA Tour for 5 years, not 3. Then you have Phil's lifetime exemption based on 20 career wins. Phil, by his career wins and winning the PGA in 2021, would have otherwise been fully eligible to play on the PGA Tour this year. But, because the Tour obviously isn't going to do anything to let Phil back. But they did want to try to lure Cam Smith back. So they make it three years, not 5 like the normal rules state, 3. It's pretty obvious what their goals are here. They want the biggest cash cows currently on LIV back on the PGA to kill LIV.

They can easily argue that 2022 was used because that was the first year that LIV held tournaments. It also conveniently leaves out Phil.

The service is just better at The Preserve.

I will agree with this. It's not that the service is bad at Grand Bear, but the Preserve was just unexpectedly nice. It's really nice when the starter comes to get you for your tee time instead of being anxious about getting over there. You can continue to chip and putt until they let you know that you can head over to the first tee.

I don't know how much help this will be since I last played them both on a guys golf trip in 22. We couldn't come to a consensus on which course was better. They were both in great shape and a lot of fun. Since you said that you were in Biloxi, I would probably go to the Preserve since it's likely half the drive time.

They will stay in a hotel at least the night before the game, if not more.

I think Crenshaw, Faldo, and then maybe Langher or Olazabal get spots before Phil?

Good points.

Second, that's so far in the future (at least 20 years) that no one knows if anyone will care about all of this at that point.

Phil is 55. All 3 of the current honorary starters will be dead well before 20 years from now (maybe Watson has a shot). Jack and Gary will likely be replaced in 5-8 years.

re: Why was Babu so mad at Jerry?

Yea that was fricked up on Jerry’s part but im talking more specifically about the restaurant episode.

Actually it wasn't. Elaine was getting Jerry's mail while he was gone. Babu's mail got delivered to Jerry on accident. Elaine was a bit lazy getting it back to Jerry. So, in order of fault:

Babu for not being on top of his own stuff and taking responsibility for his own life (including the restaurant decision)
Immigration for having a terrible system
USPS for delivering to the wrong box
Elaine for waiting so long to get Jerry his mail
Jerry

frick Babu. Those episodes always bother me because Jerry was not, in fact, a very bad man.
I take back my initial excitement. That is a desecration of the Waldos. And here I was thinking I'd buy my first soccer jersey in a decade.
I feel like your league's rule about winning no more than twice sort of promotes sandbagging. If you already won twice, you may as well tank the other rounds. I wouldn't do it, but I could see some take that route.

I feel like removing that rule would remove the incentive to sandbag since all the rounds used for handicapping are in the league. Sandbagging is an issue for other tournaments where a guy plays a bunch of rounds leading up to the tournament to get his cap up before. For your league, though, all the scores are part of the league. So, it just doesn't make sense to sandbag unless it's due to that one rule.

I guess a guy can tank a round when he knows he has no shot at winning after a few holes. That is why the handicapping system uses 8/20 rounds rather than an average.
I just looked at the app. There are three options

Current Index - That uses the GHIN (not helpful for you) or it uses all the rounds recorded in Squabbit. That could get tricky when starting over. Maybe you can add rounds in from the past year to help it calculate

Fixed Index - You just input an index when starting. You can adjust as you go. That may be the simplest but also annoying option

League Events - This is probably the best option since it seems to match your method you use now. I would probably just put in the past 12 events, then roll with that.

ETA: Just saw at the bottom that you can import rounds from a spreadsheet. That could save you a lot of time by putting in past events. It says "The rounds imported will not count towards the league leaderboard, but can be used to establish each player's handicap from existing rounds."
Yeah, this will be tricky. There is also something you need to keep an eye on. When you play a round, if you click on the player, there is a toggle where you say if something counts towards handicap. If you want the handicaps to update after a round, keep that on, if not, turn it off.

I think this may be a situation where you need to put in some time to start to save you time later. You mentioned a guy having a spreadsheet. You should get that spreadsheet and put some formulas in for the slope and rating of the courses you are playing to have it calculate all the handicap differentials from past rounds. Then either use the GHIN formula for taking the best 8 out of 20 rounds, or just use average.

The more I think about it, the more I think you'll have a tough time with this. When you make an account on Squabbit, you can link your handicap to GHIN. I would imagine that is how most leagues keep track of everyone's caps. I realize that doesn't help you, but I am not sure of a way around this.
