Am I hearing and reading this right? Policing is now purely rooted in slave control?

Could have sworn civilizations throughout history had groups assigned to protection and enforcement.

I hate groups trying to usurp these types of things and change historical reference.

Damn shame.

Dude, I've seen some argue that Blacks were enslaved longer than any race.

Yet, they ignore that Ancient Rome, Greece, and Egypt.

Rome alone existed for over 2000 years until it's collapse with well over 1500 years of slave ownership from all ends of the empire. Some Blacks but captured Gauls, Thracians, Visigoths, Celts Vandals, made up a large portion of the slave population. Mostly Gauls because captured Gauls were worth 5-6x the price of other slaves.

I've seen the claim that Egyptians were Africans. Didn't the Egyptians enslave the Israelites?

Policing in it's current form roughly began to quell workers rights in London and then transitioned to NEw York and Boston. Before that it was mostly militaries that would act as police.

Africa has always had, and still does have slaves to this very day.

They enslaved mostly Canaanites, which were Mose's people, but had slaves defeated in battles from all over.

Israelite is now believed to have developed from Canaanite culture, which does refute the Bible's claim that the Israelites wiped out the Canaanites.

This is exactly why you erase real history. You get to make up a totally new really cool one!

good grief. that is so ignorant. First of all, we had sheriffs and constables before police. furthermore, police departments were first established in this country to deal with immigrant control as well as former slaves moving into northern cities and towns. One can go find plenty of articles and other sources of documentation from mid 1800's on from cities like Detroit when they first established pds. They were specifically dealing with former slaves.

Ask for their sources on this theory. I guarantee most won't be over 10-12 years old.

A good chunk of Egypt's people came from sub-saharan Africa. The American slaves came from the west coast of africa from other slave owners in war torn regions.

These informal modalities of policing continued well after the American Revolution. It was not until the 1830s that the idea of a centralized municipal police department first emerged in the United States. In 1838, the city of Boston established the first American police force, followed by New York City in 1845, Albany, NY and Chicago in 1851, New Orleans and Cincinnati in 1853, Philadelphia in 1855, and Newark, NJ and Baltimore in 1857 (Harring 1983, Lundman 1980; Lynch 1984). By the 1880s all major U.S. cities had municipal police forces in place.

Heres something that will really make you guys melt, since y'all love your distorted history so much, and believe the south wasn't racist

quote:

In the Southern states the development of American policing followed a different path. The genesis of the modern police organization in the South is the "Slave Patrol" (Platt 1982). The first formal slave patrol was created in the Carolina colonies in 1704 (Reichel 1992). Slave patrols had three primary functions: (1) to chase down, apprehend, and return to their owners, runaway slaves; (2) to provide a form of organized terror to deter slave revolts; and, (3) to maintain a form of discipline for slave-workers who were subject to summary justice, outside of the law, if they violated any plantation rules. Following the Civil War, these vigilante-style organizations evolved in modern Southern police departments primarily as a means of controlling freed slaves who were now laborers working in an agricultural caste system, and enforcing "Jim Crow" segregation laws, designed to deny freed slaves equal rights and access to the political system.

Policing/Law enforcement goes back pretty far

That's the best part, though.

Lmfaodontcare. I've never claimed that, never will. I unapologetically love the Southern people, it's institutions and its culture. Go fiddle yourself.

Democrats have enslaved blacks for 300+ years. Let's give them their due.

Need a link to that Wild West tale. Otherwise, it just looks like you pulled it from some Liberal Arts paper.

We said the Democrats were racist. The South was largely Democrats. It wasn't until Segregation ended and people started interacting with one another that the pendulum moved in the other direction.

Once again, Democrats.

I think some in this thread are confusing a Sheriff with a police Department. We have had law enforcement for as long as recorded history, what has changed is how that is administered.

In modern times and up until a certain point in the 19th century, law enforcement was an elected position.

The police force that the north-eastern cities first developed and now what we have thoughout the nation were originally created as a type of political enforcement and were thus hired and fired. There were many police forces that were originally created with the charter to hunt escaped slaves, but this wasn't confined to the south.

And the middle east.

I'll also mention the caste system in India.

Yeah, it's not hard to understand. Don't even know what this thread thinks it's about.
